Gloopy lumps in my apple juice

I brought a carton of apple juice Best before of Aug 2011 I drank half the carton however when I went to pour another glass a big gross lump came out of the carton (looks like runny snot)

Of course I now feel sick as I have drunk from the carton and wonder if there are other in the batch. I can take it back to the shop and have taken photos but don't feel prepared to accept a refund or replacement. Do I have any rights?

    Hi,

This happened to me years ago. I didn't do anything about it and just assumed that I'd left it in the fridge for too long before finishing it off... Sorry I can't help but didn't want to read and run.
There is no excuse for rudeness. Ignorance on the other hand is excusable – you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Thanks, I have had it happen before and in that case I had opened it a week before.

So maybe it wasn't sealed correctly? as brought today and opened today x

Happened to me too a long time ago it looked very disturbing so took it to trading standards who tested it and said it was fruit pulp and chemical reaction, not nice but harmless, manufacturer was less than helpful didn't even offer a refund.

If your not prepared to accept a refund you could always donate it back to the store so they can ensure the batch is checked.. if it's not in a transparent container there's no way anyone from production through to the sale to yourself could have checked for things like this.

Out of curiosity, what are you looking for exactly?

No doubt it will be a bad batch and need investigating, but I doubt it would be harmful and has caused no harm so compensation is unlikely and unnecessary in this case.
  • Personally I can't see why finding fruit pulp in a carton of fruit juice is a problem unless you purchased a type which was specifically labelled as pulp free but as you clearly seem to feel quite strongly about it the best course of action would be to return it for a refund or replacement. I am not clear at to what else you think you are entitled to.

I was always under the impression that if you find lumps in it, it shows they use proper apples, not some apple substitute or apple flavouring.

It happened to me a few times, I just took it back for another one, no fuss.

If you odnt want a refund or a replacement, what do you want? - If you dont want your money back then you could just give it to the store next time your in or just put it in the bin.

I suppose they could repair it for you if you don't want a refund or replacement.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

i had apple juice like this once which seemed as if it was fermenting. I contacted the company who produced it with the batch number and where and when purchased. They sent me some vouchers and said they would be checking that batch.
