Sell on eBay, or scrap it?
I have a '96 Peugeot 306 that I can barely afford to run with the rising costs of fuel and insurance etc. I discovered today that there is some sort of issue with the electrics that run to the back lights and there are a few other problems (nothing that stops the car actually running, the engine is fine!) so have decided to get rid.
I know the car is not worth a great deal, I bought it 2 years ago for £500. It's taxed until 30/09/11 and MOT'd until 27/03/2012
Would I be best sticking it on eBay and see what it fetches (mentioning the faults) or should I just cut my losses and scrap it and claim back the 3 months tax that's left?

Is it worth seeing what you'll get in scrap, then putting it on eBay for a bit more as a starting price and see what you get? Not sure what the fees would be mind you. What is pi? Where did it come from?0

Even with these problems?...
There is a connection issue with the back lights
The airbag light is on
Some t!t left his handbrake off and ran into the front of mine. He fixed it all, but didn't do a great job!
One of the back doors doesn't match the rest (was like it when I bought it
The blowers don't always work
There is a knocking when I reverse
It crunches when I go into 5th gear
And I'm pretty sure the power steering doesn't work (well, it doesn't feel like it!) Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0 -
Yep!
I tried for ages to find a cheap car off eBay that had problems which I could fix as a project and sell on. (Or break for parts)
The cars go for so much I couldn't really see a profit in it.
As it has some MoT and Tax then it's going to do pretty well.
If you list it, PM me the item number and I'll get it going by bidding what I'd be happy to pay for it. (I'm still looking for a car with problems to fix ...)

My sons has this problem, comes up every year at MOT time On his it's the wiring under the drivers seat We just have a fiddle with it Told it's a common problem Put it on ebay someone will buy it0

And the intermittent blower could be the contacts in the ignition switch... if you wiggle the key or turn it 1mm extra forward and back and the blower comes on, that's how you know... there's a well documented work around for that too as its a very common fault for Xantia, ZX, 306 etc.
Connection with the back lights could be really simple too, like dodgy earth connection
Crunching when changing gears... simple clutch pedal height adjustment? I think Haynes says check that every 6k as they don't self adjust. Or it'll probably be some other simple fix.
I'd sell it as a normal car with a few niggles, and list the niggles - I wouldn't put it as for spares and repair - but that's just me.0 -
I'm in the prcess of writing the eBay ad now, but I'm crap at this (being a blonde woman and all lol). Just gonna really honest me thinks and see what happens. Just not sure what to start it at?? Ideally I'd like to get a least £100 for it but don't wanna start it too high! Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0

I'm sure if you post your ad here someone will have a look over it and see if you can improve it.
Is £100 the lowest you'll be happy with? If it is, I would start it at that. What is pi? Where did it come from?0 -
Start at £150 to cover fees if your happy with £100. It's worth more than that surely.
I budgeted £50 for every months MOT for my current car, even with the problems yours has, I'd like to think over £300 with that MOT.0
