NTL 300k BB AND Phone for £17.99 offer

The NTL boys at our local shopping center are offering 300kbps 30G cap broadband for £17.99/month, free modem and activation and their (normally £9.50/mo) phone access included for free. I don't know the contact length, but imagine it's 12 months.
It looks like you can up/downgrade this to 1Mbps 3G cap when the speed upgrades come through mid month.
This appears to be the best deal I've seen, as we'd lose the BT £10.50/mo phone and £6.99 Fast4.Net dialup and get low speed broadband for about the same price.
We are currently with Onetel CPS and using BT for 0845/0870, Call18866 for daytime/evening calls, Call1899 for mobile calls, Onetel's free weekend and directory enquiries calls and CheapestCalls for our calls to Australia.
There appear to be a few tradeoffs here, losing the 1p+0p/min daytime UK calls for 1p+0.5p/min via the Call18866 0800 number etc.
Has anyone actually signed up for this and are there any additional charges?
I've read some reviews of NTL, most imply the customer service is rubbish, but is there anyone out there with NICE things to say about them?
Looking forward to hearing from someone, hopefully soon as 'This offer was supposed to finish on Mon 28/2", naturally.

the only charge you may get is an installation charge, but this is also normally included.
as you say you can get a free upgrade which is due this month.
the only issue with the upgrade may be the cap.
i believe though if you had the 750k package which gets upgraded to 2mb the cap will be 30gb which may suit people more.
guess it depends how much you do.
the 17.99 is for a year also is it not? dont know what happens after that, as the 17.99 is made up of paying for the broadband getting free phone rental.0 -
According to the rep I spoke to yesterday, there is no installation charge, activation charge, or charge for the modem, I was just hoping someone else had seen this offer and was further ahead in the decision than I am now, and therefore might know more, like as you said, what happens after the year is up.
As for usage, well I don't do much now because we're on dialup, but I think if we went with this, I'd stick with the 300k/30G, rather than go with the 1M/3G option.0 -

Ntl do this offer every few months or so .... basically it's a promotion whereaby if you sign up to broadband for a year then you get the phone line rental free for a year. Sooo after a year you pay the full costs of the broadband and line rental!0

I just got an offer from ntl, i was wondering if any one could advise me whether it was ant good or not !!. For £24.99 a month i get `unlimited 512K broadband and landline calls` and a free webcam. I think it sounds very good. What do you think?0

larl, when its a combined offer with internet and phone calls you can usually find a much cheaper option if you separate the two.
The £5 a month you have to pay for calls can be had for nothing for a year by checking out the Home Phones board0 -

So, if we do decide do go with it, does anyone know how hard is it to ditch NTL after the first year? Because we will if they try to put the price up.0 -

Just ring them and give them a month's notice!0 -
Cannot see any mention of this offer on the web site. Do you have to get lucky to see your local rep to get this offer or could you contact ntl direct?0

They don't advertise it - they send out leaflets to certain people. However it's open to anyone if you just ring up and ask about it, I'm not sure if the offer has expired or not tho!?0
