Can't even get through at the moment! been trying for about an hour but no luck. It does say it takes about half an hour to fix but it would just depend how many are affected and need repairs i guess
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D
  • I've got visions if that ours is one of the affected models them saying it'll take about three weeks before they can come out and do the fix.

I've just managed to get through.

I had to hold for 45 minutes

Good news, though, they're coming tomorrow between 8am and 1pm so I'm pleased about that at least :)

It's a British Gas engineer. Not sure why, but I don't suppose Beko have enough of their own to cover this

It seems to me that these have been catching alight for a while, but Beko have only done the recall when the exact cause is pinpointed.

Listen to Andrew Mullen on BBC news here

Still i suppose if they said our fridge freezers are bursting into flames, but don't worry we are trying to find out why, it may have caused panic.

its doing the same thing this morning they ask you to check your appliance and say the lines are open 8 till 8 and then it cuts off, quite poor really if you ask me, i would rather sit here queing then have to keep ringing back, listening to the little talk thing everytime to get cut off

Just sent this email to my local trading standards. Will update if / when I get a response.
Feel free to C&P and send it to yours if you like ;)

I have a CDA 539FW Beko Fridge freezer that is on their list of affected freezers. I bought it from ****** in ****** over a year ago.
However, I cannot proceed with getting the potentially lethal problem fixed as there is no sticker with a serial number and I can't proceed without one. The website tells you to phone their hotline number if this happens.
I've tried phoning their number, but there is a fault on the line. After the recorded message telling you to hold if you need to talk to someone, the line goes dead. Have tried a few times now and this has happened every time. How is anyone without access to the internet, like my elderly Mum expected to find help?
So now I'm stuck with a potentially dangerous appliance that I'm unable to unplug at night, located under our bedroom. Am really worried.
Not happy that this is a nationally recognised problem & Beko's systems to fix it have failed. I even waited until today as I guessed they'd be inundated when the story broke yesterday!
    Any ideas what to do?
    Thanks in anticipation

So frustrating to keep getting cut off. Would rather be on hold then have to keep ringing back to get through. If you bought your fridge from Comet, there is a second number I found that you can try and get through on - 0800 783 7892. Also busy, but at least they put you on hold properly and so you can actually wait your turn and get through. Didn't take me too long to get through, but they couldn't help me as I bought mine from Dixons and they are Comet staff who are helping Beko out so they only have access to the Comet customer data. Shame Beko can't pull their finger out and get some more staff on this - they've had enough time to prepare as sounds like they've known about it for ages!

oh, and granny biker, if you bought your fridge only a year ago, you should be ok - it's those namufactured between 2000 and October 2006 that are the problem. Hence the need for the serial number, as the first two digits are the year of manufacture, so only those that start with 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 or 06 will qualify for the free fix. May be some comfort?!?
