Oh - witz Zara it was one tablet into one dairyle triangle, in the air with "catch" and that was it..... Wish I had 6 dogs instead of 6 cats grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Reminds me....How to Give a Cat a Tablet
Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind the sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.
Retrieve cat from bedroom and throw soggy pill away. Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.
Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call partner in from garden. Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get partner to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth.
Drop pill down ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously.
Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from the foil wrap. Make note to buy a new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered 'Dolton' figurines from hearth and set to one side for gluing later. Wrap cat in large towel and get partner to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force cat's mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw.
Check label to make sure pills not harmful to humans, drink glass of water to take taste away. Apply plaster to partners forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap. Retrieve cat from neighbours shed and get another pill. Place cat in cupboard and close door onto neck to leave head showing. Force mouth open with dessert spoon and flick pill down throat with elastic band.
Fetch screwdriver from garage and put door back on hinges. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus jab. Throw t-shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom. Ring fire brigade to retrieve cat from tree across the road and apologise to neighbour who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid the cat. Take last pill from foil wrap. Tie cats front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table, find heavy duty pruning gloves from shed and pry cat's mouth open with a small spanner. Push pill into mouth followed by a large piece of fillet steak. Hold head vertically and pour a pint of water down throat to wash down pill.
Get partner to drive you to the Emergency Room and sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearms and removes pill remnants from right eye.
Call at furniture shop on way home to order new table.
Arrange for RSPCA to collect cat. Ring local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters.

im a vet nurse and dont know of any products that last for a whole year, this would be very interesting to learn as alot of people would find it useful
otherwise u could see if ur surgery holds free nurses clinics, and they would be able to administer the tablets for u0 -

I worked this one out completely by accident: Get some super fresh lambs liver from the butchers (will cost you all of 7p) - crush the tablet into powder and mix the tablet/liver into a puree with the flat side of a knife.
There absolutely has to be no white flecks in the puree, and you might get away with it (i did the first time)
If they reject it, take it away, pop it in the fridge, and play the whole 'hey look i've got a bit of liver for you' game all over again later that day (but this time making sure to add more liver, and crushing remaining errant lumps of tablet (this worked six months later when we had to feed another worming tablet and she twigged)
Don't feed them fresh liver and let them near zebedee strength catnip though (cue classic Looney Tunes Tazmanian Devil video on Youtube)
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
Thanks for ideas on how to administer tablets but sorry, this is not what I was asking here.....
I just do not want the hassle like last weekend, way too traumatic for both me and the cats.
Besides, none of my cats likes liver and there is no way I could get all 6 of them to the vets at once and in stages - would cost me a forutne in cabs, I do not drive/do not have a car, can not carry multiple cats baskets and walk 40 min.....no bus going that way close enough... sorry
I am really quite !!!!ed off to be honest - everyone knows cats hate tablets, nobody came with some amazing solution? I do not mean here on the forum, I mean research, vets etc etc
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
By the way - it was 3 of us trying to worm the cats, all have scratches to prove it0 -
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, thanks for that...
But it only works for tapeworm0 -
OK
Haven't read the whole thread - sorry!
GR - really you have only one choice if you don't want to / can't tablet;
Profender spot on will kill tapeworms - neccessary
Stronghold or Advocate will kill roundworms - neccessary
Pet shop stuff is useless as we all know, especially as the cat spot on wormer market is a new one, so will take years for these proven products to become available from anyone but the vet.
Expensive - yes!
The only other option I can see is that most vet practices offer FREE nurse clinics, including administering meds if they have been bought at the vets. Getting 6 cats to the vets is a push, but it may work out cheaper to buy 6 x drontal cat tabs at the vets, plus milage, than to pay for the spot ons? Which are all POM-V, so you would need to see the vet anyway....I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Really - as I said, I am not able to get 6 cats to the vets at the same time and no cash to pay vet's prices+cabs there and back.
Friend's OH is a vet.. another friend's daughter is a vet nurse... will see if I can get prescription for Stronhold perhaps for the next time or the other things....
Right now I am REALLY still so .... off.... you have no idea.0 -

It doesn't have to be liver - we chose that because she loves it (if it's not fresh enough she won't go near it). Whatever floats your cat's boat(s) that's the way to do it - by tricking them, rather than by force - i'm not sure if i made that clear. With six of them to sort out, using sneaky psychology you might be able to do it over say a week - one by one..?
