thanks, how can I check if I have a wireless card?

Why do you want Wi-Fi if you don't know if your PC is wireless enabled? What are you going to use Wi-Fi for?

Well in that case your PC does not need Wi-Fi capability. Just get a cable Wi-Fi router.

Thanks for your reply, so do I not need a wifi capability then?

What would I need to do to set it up? My daughter might also be getting an ipad and it would need to work with that as well.

You will need a router, which the modem will connect to then the router will broadcast the internet to wireless stuff.

You maybe able to blag a free one from virgin media if you phone up and say your modem isn't working (then slam it with a hammer or something).

Otherwise you will need to buy a cable router.

So, if I get a cable Wi-Fi router, what do I have to do with it? connect it to my cable modem and......then what? (will it work for a blackberry and an ipod)

Your PC does not, but a Blackberry or IPad will. Most routers support many Wi-Fi devices so two will not be an issue. It's usually cheaper to buy your own router but VM will not support it, if you get one from VM then they will support it.

Thanks so much for your help, so I can buy something like this
    Belkin N300 F5d8236uk4 Cable Router

or I can ask VM to buy one from them.

Is it really simple to set up once I have one?

Cable modem > Ethernet cable > router > Ethernet cable > PC

Access the router set-up page on the PC using a browser, enable security 'WPA2' and set a password. On the Wi-Fi devices (one at a time) search for the router name, enter the password, you set on the router, connect to the internet.
