Looking For Cheap Broadband Without Contract

I've just cancelled my BT internet connection after 2 years with them as I was struggling to afford paying internet bills. Does another service provider exist that is affordable but doesn't require that I sign up to a 12 month contract?

If you are on Orange it's free. My friend has it and so far has had no problems what so ever. She's only on 1M, but that's all you can get where we are anyway!

I'm not sure cancelling with BT was the wisest move. You can transfer [migrate] to many other providers w/o them charging you even if you're not on a 12month contract with them. However to reactivate the line costs them almost £50 so few, if any, even with a 12 month contract, will do that w/o passing on the costs to you.
Orange is "free" only if you already have a mobile contract for £30pm, Sky is "free" if you're a subscriber and live in their enabled area and TT are "free" if you have your phone line and a top-end calls package with them.
There are plenty of suppliers who do monthly contracts, which is best/cheapest for you depends on your usage and what you consider cheap.
Good sites to compare providers and get some background are:
https://www.thinkbroadband.com/ [comparisons and forums are good]
https://www.ispreview.co.uk/ [read others experiences of any you think are suitable]
Spk to BT and see if you can change from cancelling to getting a MAC which allows you to move to a different ISP within 30 days.

As mentioned on a prevous thread with the same question most if not all short (1 to 3 month) contract ISPs will sting you for a "cancellation" fee if you leave before 12 months.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there are ANY monthly ADSL contracts with NO PENALTY any more.
The last one was offered by Virgin IIRC, but they stopped that in June 2005 and now charge a penalty fee like all of the others.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Thats for new connections and migrations from a LLU exchange. Migrations are free of any connection fee.
