Nah. Common sense would tell me its a clerical error and once its sorted then no one will know about it.
Happens all the time. Normally it's down to the typist being too busy chatting about what she did last night, rather than concentrating on work...

Just paid a deposit on a car, subject to HPI check. Came home and did the HPI check and it says:

Data currently held on the National Mileage Register (NMR) indicates that there may be a mileage discrepancy on this vehicle.

It says that on 14-Apr-11 the NMR have a record of 11,000 miles. Then on 21-Apr-11 the DVLA have a record of 112,000 miles.

It's a 10 plate Mondeo with 11,000 miles on the clock. Now, I don't think the car did 100,000 miles in a week and was then clocked. It looks to me like the DVLA recorded the mileage incorrectly on 21st April. Is this a reasonable assumption? Is it possible to get the DVLA to change their records? Worried that when we sell the car on in the future this will get flagged again for future buyers and the car will look clocked. :( And that if we have an accident the insurers will give us a puny value if they think it's done a massive mileage. :(

Also, am I being too relaxed about this? Could there be a problem with the car do you think?

The dealer (main dealer) said they had done and HPI check and it was clear.
some mileage information collected by HPI and Experian for their databases is collected from sources where its not possible to establish verification of accuracy and mistakes are possible it is at best only a guide, but if you buy the vehicle the problem would be yours, its value is blighted, You could sort it yourself, but why should you!
Why not get the dealer to sell you the vehicle with a suitable discount and make it worth your while.

I think you need to get yourself a TARDIS and pop back to 2011 to tell them this.

Would be handy to have the Tardis! Just to chime in here anyway for people wondering about this, the DVLA will change the records, though they usually require proof of mileage (service book, or MOT near or on the date) but...

The DVLA generally won't do this for consumers, the easiest way is to contact the NMR, National Mileage Register, who are controlled through HPI, they can raise this on your behalf. Any of the car check companies out there which supply mileage results are probably getting them from the NMR, so in your first instance, contact the Car Check supplier and ask them to contact the NMR for you..

Wouldn't it just. Then you could also go back to April 2013 and make your post relevant.

How many old threads do you need to bump before you can post links these days?
