Mileage Alert on HPI Check - DVLA mistake?

Just paid a deposit on a car, subject to HPI check. Came home and did the HPI check and it says:

Data currently held on the National Mileage Register (NMR) indicates that there may be a mileage discrepancy on this vehicle.

It says that on 14-Apr-11 the NMR have a record of 11,000 miles. Then on 21-Apr-11 the DVLA have a record of 112,000 miles.

It's a 10 plate Mondeo with 11,000 miles on the clock. Now, I don't think the car did 100,000 miles in a week and was then clocked. It looks to me like the DVLA recorded the mileage incorrectly on 21st April. Is this a reasonable assumption? Is it possible to get the DVLA to change their records? Worried that when we sell the car on in the future this will get flagged again for future buyers and the car will look clocked. :( And that if we have an accident the insurers will give us a puny value if they think it's done a massive mileage. :(

Also, am I being too relaxed about this? Could there be a problem with the car do you think?

The dealer (main dealer) said they had done and HPI check and it was clear.

Yep, talked more and firstly there is no way in hell the car has done >100k (based on condition of brakes, engine etc). I'm absolutely certain that someone at the DVLA has entered the mileage incorrectly on their database.

BUT, we're categorically not going to take it with that on its record. The dealer can get the DVLA to amend their records so the check comes back clean or we're not having it. They're open again on Monday so we'll see what they say.

That might not be the case.
The dealer may well have had an HPI carried out when they purchased the car, in which case it wouldn't have shown anything untoward.
After they bought it, they would have sent off the relevant part of the V5, and this could well be when the error occurred.

That's true. The dealer in question has a good reputation locally; decent cars but high prices. We got the price down and we're happy with the deal and very happy with the car. It's all going to come down to whether he can get the DVLA to amend their record. We're simply not comfortable taking it as is. That's not over-reacting, right?

For one thing, the car is still under manufacturer's warranty but I don't want other Ford dealerships claiming they won't do warranty work because it's done over 60k miles!

looking at all the dates car has been on pitch since 14th april when dealer checked mileage
    fair enough
log book should then have had top right hand corner removed by seller of vehicle and given rest of log book to dealer, this is where seller has made the mistake in putting the wrong mileage in,he might have even done it out of spite because the car was a lemon remember because its not very old,or dvla might have read it wrong
dealer then has 3 months to sell car before he has to register it with the dvla

i suggest you speak to previous owner and anyway dont buy car till mileage amended as i said

Hmmm wonder how a 2 can look like a comma so 11,000 becomes 112000....

    Thanks for the advice.

Buying a new car had all gone so smoothly up to this point. :(

you can apply for the discrepancy to be removed but im sure it would have to have a VIC test in order to be able to do this??

my vehicle has a mileage discrepancy in the HPI but also states the date discrepancy removed, mileage verified.

Well, we'll speak to the dealer on Monday (not open tomorrow) and they can apply and do whatever is necessary if they want to sell it to us. If not, we'll walk away. It's a Mondeo - there'll be other ones as nice as this one.

Shame the discrepancy stays on there with a note, rather than just being removed. :(

but thats what HPI is for, it gives detailed history and a starting point to haggle, i.e dealer states genuine miles, hpi states what you discovered here he cant 100% say its genuin as HPI states otherwise eventhough you can see its a genuin error, you see these errors quite often, especially when an MOT tester makes a mistake, inputting mileage into the VOSA system then having to go back and re print and then it get marked as discrepancy.

Which will give others something to haggle with us on if we sell it. :(
