US Bank Account??

Hi Guys,
Ive recently started to purchase alot of equipment from USA but they all require paypal or western union which both have their cut taken out, costing me more. Does anyone know where I can get a US $ account, ideally no minimum income on it as I will just use it when required.

When you pay by Paypal, the seller has to pay the fees, not the buyer. Unless you mean that they are charging you more for paying by this method

  • If you can borrow an address in the USA for a couple of weeks then you might look at Washington Mutual's free checking account (wamu.com).

I have one, opened it in a branch (while over there) with a US address then changed address to the UK once the card & checkbook* arrived. You can pay bills by debit card or online and they'll even cut a check* and mail it for free if you instruct via the website.

*Merkian spelling 'cos I'm talking about a Merkian account.
  • If you want a US address set up an account with https://www.usa2me.com I have not used them but several friends in the USA and the UK have and all say they are good. If you travel a great deal (such as by boat or motor home) they will send your mail to where ever you are in the US or abroad. You have to fill in a legal form but the site tell you everything.
  • cheers for the responses will have to look into them.
  • Going another step is there any good priced websites where i can get a USA address for mail forwarding to the UK?

How did you get round the fact that you have to provide an American Social Security Number? Or are you American?

Nope, I'm a Brit. I was worried about this too, as I didn't have an SSN or ITIN at the time, but when I raised the subject I was told "That's OK, we've got a form for that."

It's called a W8-BEN, one side of paper, takes 2 mins to fill in. No problem.
