Hoping to pick brains on pros and cons of these places please
Also good/bad areas within each - any info? Which would you prefer to live in and why? Or why not?
Thanks in advance.

I am in Cornwall, and although I do not have personal experience of any of the places you mention, except Par (about 9 miles from us and lived there for 12 months in the early '90's), I would comment that Falmouth and Truro are likely to be far higher property prices, then Par or Helston.
Are you looking to rent or buy?
Do you have school age children? If so, check out the Ofsted website for the reports on the schools in the area you are looking at.
Do you have a job to come to? The employment situation and wages in Cornwall are very poor, yet we have the highest water rates of anywhere in the country!0 -
Werdnal, thanks. Am looking to buy (outright from proceeds of current sale) so that at least is a cushion re jobs/wages. No kids. Am aware of job situation/water rates etc.
Family is in Truro, mates in Wadebridge (but they will be moving in medium future, probably further south) and Polperro (nice to visit, would drive me mad living there).
Helston - yes, definite price difference to Truro and Falmouth, but I did like the feel of the place, although there have been some comments about the heavy Navy presence.
What did you think of Par?
Basically looking for a quiet(ish) life - don't need to be going to pubs/clubs every week, or even every month/quarter. Don't want to be right out in the sticks though in case I ever lose the car.

Par is quiet in places, like anywhere really. We lived on Old Roselyon Estate, but its got a lot more built up since we moved away in '93, but it seems thats the case everywhere in Cornwall lately!
The industrial harbour area (formerly Imerys Clay Export port) has recently all but closed down and they are looking at ambitious plans to put a Marina complex and luxury apartments in the site, so not sure what that will do for house prices, or traffic problems in the area.
Shopping wise, there is a medium sized Co-op store, and local newsagents/"corner" shops, but nearest main supermarkets would be St Austell. It has a mainline rail station, Drs surgery and dentist in St Blazey (next village).
I only actually lived there for 12 months, before we moved here - we actually moved because we wanted to be in the sticks! But my hubby was born and brought up in St Blazey.
Helston's military presence is due to Culdrose Naval Air Station dominating the place.0 -
I've no idea. I have already decided Par's too grim for me though.0
-
Thanks, both.
Pastures - why too grim? Where would you live if you had the choice?

LOL. I do like taking the narrow road alongside the big dipper... but I once turned off the dipper towards the sea and got hit in the face with a setting sun and couldn't see a thing to even know where the hedge was.Rejerrah all the way for me.....but Falmouth is lovely....even the bad bit's !.....that are not bad really !0 -
Gooner - which are "bad" bits in Falmouth, pls? Do you know about Helston as well?"When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes" - Erasmus0

The Beacon esate.
I've never lived in Falmouth but used to visit a lot, and the Beacon was the one area of Falmouth that had a bad reputation. I know someone who used to live there who had lots of problems with feral teenagers.0
