I think that if they were buying multi packs of something (like crisps for example) there can be some restrictions as some packets say 'multi pack, not for individual resale' but im not sure who would enforce that? Possibly trading standards perhaps.

    ...

Guess the only other thing that springs to mind is are they buying and selling these items through their business accounts/books? (buying over the counter like any other customer and getting a receipt V buying from a supplier and getting regular invoices)

The quality of a can of multipack pepsi is the same as retail packed, so I don't believe there are any valid grounds for preventing it. I think it looks a bit pony when businesses do it, but not illegal.

And the receipt vs invoice thing makes no difference at all. Companies frequently buy retail items, there aren't rules preventing companies from using any form of payment as long as the records are kept accurately :)

Maybe ops breaching the DPA for passing on information about who's supplying their bread ;)

Probably. Though i would again like to see the law that Flyboy states about this.

Anything advertised by kerry katona is wrong.

though due to the DPA i shouldnt have mentioned her advertising it..

There is nothing illegal about selling out of multipacks - but the items must contain the relevant food labelling as required by law.

The manufacturer could have all the labelling on the outer packaging and no ingredients etc onthe individual items inside - unsure if there is a legislation stopping them from doing this though. Off the top of my headn ormally the only thing missing on fizzy drinks cans etc is the barcode.

Years ago. Most corner shops, restaurants, takeaways etc were either supplied through trade sellers or cash and carrys. Now it's far cheaper to go to the supermarket. Supermarkets are not just for retail customers. They will happily sell to trade and there is no law against this. The discounts that the supermarkets can obtain are far greater than the buying powers of cash and carrys.

Look at the burger wagons. Where do they get their bread, rolls and French sticks from? From supermarkets.

I think the OP is rather naive to think that there is something illegal about this.

Whilst workign at Tesco I am sure we had maximum amounts of certain products - i.e peopel oculdnt buy more than 5 of a certain type of product because w ewould run out otherwise - cant remember the specifics though.

Like the poster above, sometimes you used to get people coming in and buying a whole troller load of just 1 item - tesco value chips were a common one for all those restaurants. I bet they made their money back on one portion.

i think at sainsburys we put a limit on how bags of chips the restaurant staff could buy, never had limits on other stuff as thats what the computer system would do and order more.

A local pub round here does the same thing with their soft drinks. Its actually cheaper than buying them from the brewery or Pub suppliers so they use the local supermarket. As long as they aren't passing it off as their own home made product then I see nothing wrong with it.

You should see ASDA round here come Sunday evening, well about 3.30pm as they close at 4pm. It is like a feeding fenzy with pub / resturant / shop owners.

All after that reduced meat or fish for their freezers or to use for Monday meals.

I honestly think fair is fair. My old local store use to by reduced prawns and fish, freeze them and rewrite the labels to say " eat when defrosted/ already frozen do not refreeze " etc and people would buy them knowing where they came from because it saved a bus or car journey.
If I want a loaf of bread at stupid o clock in the morning I am not going to drive to ASDA or Tesco which requires more energy then I might have but I will walk around the block and get a loaf, even if it cost me 40p it saves my morning and as I really really hate the major supermarkets I would rather support the local guy as well.

I also think that the whole point of business is to make a profit and that is normally done by buying at one price and selling at a higher price..It happens with all types of business so not really sure how it would come as a shock that a local shop would be in on the big secret.

Must admit its news to me that this happens.

So - how do "people" make sure they get what they need FIRST from the "reduced food" counter before "businesses" take it all?...and yep thats a genuine question.
