Argos - now all items only 6 month guarantee

Options
I would like to warn people that Argos now only insure their items for 6 months. So the statutory 12 months guarntee will have to be witheld by the manufacturers if its a fault that develops from 6 to 12 months. They will like all outlets try and sell you cover.

Vote with your feet or fingers in shopping where the outlet supports you when you need to return a faulty product.

DONT SHOP AT ARGOS ! Is this fair to say ? Argos would argue it is down to the abuse of the customer returning stuff that isnt faulty and they need to clamp down - so thank you if you are one of them for helping to make british society that wee bit less great ! (don't get me started on fraudulent travel claims for cameras)

Will everyone else now follow suit ? Lets show our vote so they may think twice. Its all about how the MDs will see their brand. Argos never has had a great brand image when it comes to consumer care they are the brand that sells cheap.

Still covered by SoGA, which states that after 6 months you need to prove a fault, before 6 months the retailer has to prove the fault did not exist at time of sale, so no difference really.

Not sure what you mean by "insure", but if you are referring to the guarantee/warranty, then these are in addition to your statutory rights, SoGA, and they can put mostly whatever terms they want into them.

So the statutory 12 months guarntee

This is a very common fallacy. In the UK there is no statutory 12 month guarantee. All the SOGA states is that goods are expected to last a reasonable time and if they don't, it is up to the retailer to put it right.

Up to 6 months, it's assumed that the product is faulty, so thus the retailers responsibility to replace/repair/refund. After this, it's up to the buyer to prove it's faulty, so the 6 month guarantee with Argos is logical.

(and legally they would still have to repair/replace/refund a product if you could prove it faulty after the 6 month period)
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

No such thing, and we have SoGA which is "up to 6 years".

There is no UK legislation in force that states there is must be a 12 month guarantee on everything sold here.
Most manufacturers will offer a 12 month warranty, (some offer more), but this is down to them choosing to do so. Unless you have purchased directly from them, the manufacturer has no contract with you, hence no liability towards the goods sold by someone else.

No! When you buy goods, you enter into a contract with the seller, and your legal rights for contractual problems are with them, not the manufacturer. Most manufacturers offer a guarantee, usually for 12 months, but this is in addition to your legal rights against the seller.

The Sale of Goods Act 1979 governs your contract with the seller and sets out your rights and remedies should anything go wrong.
