Computer clock resetting

Every morning my clock in windows will say something like 11pm when it is about 10am. The date is often right I think, although today it said December 21st.

Any ideas?

It I log on at night after a few hours off the computer, it is fine. Just happens on a morning.

I have only noticed it doing it since I installed Java, but I cannot see that this would cause it?

  • Check which time zone your Pc is set in - if the time changes occure when your Pc is switched on , then its the windows time service updatign from a web based source , but it thinks you are in a different zone.
  • How old is the computer?
And when you say 'just happens in the morning' as the PC been turned off or left on?

The reason I ask is that on older machines the battery on the motherboard maybe dieing. It's like any other battery and keeps the date/time in sych when it's turned off.

As for Java, I don't know sorry.

I can't see how installing java could affect your PC's time. It is more likely that the battery on the motherboard needs replacing. Normally a CR2032 cell which is about the size of a five pence piece.

I have always had problems with Java.

It installed into downloaded programmes files, 3 icons, 2 were damaged. I have removed these now.

I will have to see about replacing the battery to see if this helps.

I go along with David B . Check the battery, nothing lasts for ever.

    It has to go sometime.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I very much doubt that Java has affected your PC's clock.
Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!

Thank you all, I will swap the battery and hope that is the problem.

I will let you know what happens.

Have to try to find it now!

Replaced battery this morning as the clock in the bios had yesterday's day and it said 4pm.

Isn't it strange that the time is only 1 day old? I thought when the battery went the time and date were years ago?

When the battery realy dies you get a "checksum" error message at boot up and the time and date get reset to the original bios date.
