    Surely Jane Norman have already been paid the cash value of the value of the voucher already, and so owe the OP the goods to the value of it?

    Don't know if a gift card is the same thing as a gift voucher, but I used up what was left on my gift card this morning on half-price sale items which came to less than twice the price of what was on the gift card.

    At the till there was a print out with the 50% conditions, but I just handed over the gift card and it all went through fine.

    Maybe the gift card is different to vouchers, but could just be worth trying another day with different staff and just being confident?!:)

    I think you're probably out of luck - the administrator doesn't have to respect the vouchers at all, so offering to take them at 50% is probably that the 50% cash covers their stock costs/liquidates that stock, and the 50% voucher is just to get you in the door. It won't get better, likely when they start discounting before closing branches they will cease to accept vouchers altogether (although the stock may well be half price or less anyway!)
  • ..I went to a store determined to get rid of my £25 gift vouchers. I struggled to find anything I liked at first. Then I saw a half decent bikini on sale (not that I need one!). It cost £21 in total.

    I took it to the till and they told me that the new owner's rules are:

    - that they are not allowed to be redeemed on sale items (not that there was much else left in store!!).

    - that I must spend twice the amount of my vouchers (so he gets another £25 from me after I spend my gift!0.

    - that they invalid after July.

    I just walked out.

    2 "Dishonestly"

    (1) A person!s appropriation of property belonging to another is not to be regarded as dishonest !

    (a)

    if he appropriates the property in the belief that he has in law the right to deprive the other of it, on behalf of himself or of a third person;

    So I don't think it's theft.

    But you're making the assumption that the gift vouchers/card are legal tender and therefore have a value against the goods taken in exchange

    I don't have to make that assumption, they have a marked value and the cash for them has already been received by the vendor. Like I say it's a civil matter. Up to the administrator to negotiate with the voucher user. I did it for my friends son in a store which was closing and would not honour his gift card, I left my name and address with the staff to pass to the administrators, I am still waiting.

    OP could you buy items to the value they are asking and then return the things you don't want and get your cash back?
