Hi, im having problems reading captchas in forms, they wont show at all, i'm using windows 7 advent laptop, i have done a system restore and that didnt work and ran malaware and spydoctor which didn't show anything. I posted in microsofts help forum and got this reply
If you are using Internet Explorer, try the following:
Click Start, type: Internet Options
Hit Enter
Select 'Advanced' tab
Under Reset Internet Explorer Settings, click 'Reset'
This should restore Internet Explorer to its default settings
I wanted to double check this was safe to do before i went ahead as i dont want my laptop to be unusable, i can live without the the capchas but ideally would like it to be fixed, thanks in advance for any help.

It won't break your laptop to do this.
You might try with a portable version of Firefox on the same sites:

If not, then something else might be going on.0 -
Hi tried portable firefox and still cannot see captchas, any ideas? thanks0

Is Java and adobe flash player up to date?

For other browsers

Is the no script add on installed?
Is Norton Firewall Installed?0 -
ok, i have latest versions of flash and java, i have no idea what no script add on is or where i would find it and no norton isnt installed, it worked fine until couple days ago, also i find clicking links takes me elsewhere, for example iclicked you link above and it redirected me to another site(a gambling site) i've ran mmalware from a usb which again didnt find anything, very strange.0

Reckon Russ will be along to ask for a hijack this log
You need the one on the right, installer

Have you uninstalled the previous versions of java? You should for security reasons0 -
Yeah thought so, starting to see this a lot. It's botnet activity (edit: apparently not!), and don't usually see anything on Hijackthis logs unfortunately. I'd suggest to run the following and report back after you try each one:
Run HitmanPro, and only remove anything more serious than a cookie (don't remove just cookies if that's all it detects, as it starts a trial period & you won't be able to use Hitmanpro to remove anything after a week).

Run Dr Web. Personally I'd say 'cancel' when it asks about the Enhanced Protection Mode, then do a custom scan and point it at the c:\windows\system32 folder:

Run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool. You can save time and do a custom scan, and point it at the c:\windows\system32 folder:

Run Superantispyware, and select a custom scan, and again just point it at the c:\windows\system32 folder if you can figure out how.

hi, sorry how do i point it to 32 folder, i'm not the best when it comes to stuff like this sorry0
-
Well you don't need to with the first one, Hitmanpro. Just select 'Next' and "No I only want to perform a one-time scan to check this computer", then 'Next' again.
With the others, if you can't easily figure it out, just run the default scan to save yourself some stress.0 -
ran hitman, says no threats found, will move to next 10
