To cut a long story short I found out these had come out when I phoned up to ask for my available balance (you have to phone for available, internet banking doesn't say) I was totally furious because I had not done these and I know too well I would not get the money back so I find a way of transferring the money that was rightfully mine into a friend's bank account and now I have the money that was rightfully mine in cash BUT I'm £2,200 overdrawn, obviously!

Not true, above is from the first post and relates to phoning the bank not the gambling site.

Because the OP had rung the bank up for an up to date balance on their acount, it was a couple grand off so they asked what that was for etc. etc. Already been explained earlier in the thread.

If that was the case, the OP would not have got the money out of the account. It would have had to be seen on the betting site. As already been explained.

It depends on which bank and how their system 'holds' the pending money, as well as what time of day the system 'knew' about the transaction. It may well be showing in house at the bank after 9 in the morning but might not have updated the cashpoint until overnight that day. So the cashpoint would think the entire amount of money was still available to the OP.

If they did it by bank transfer and the online banking hadn't been updated then again, the money would have been available. We all know that the Co-op online for instance can take a couple of days to show transactions that are available for the bank staff to view if we ring them up!

    Thank you people.

I will inform the police and take it to the FOS, hopefully the company will be pressed to investigate the issue as mentioned, more than just seeing the transaction and thinking "well it shows up on the account so it must have been done". As I was definitely not logged into my account in the time frame that the transactions were authorised (I called at 9am for available balance and was fine, called at 11pm and the problems arisen here) then it would provide irrefutable evidence that I had not done this transaction.

But, I just can't help but think they will still try to pan it on me somehow. We all know people don't give money for nothing and will do anything they can to refuse paying (goes with anything!)

Why would you keep ringing throughout the day for your available balance? Surely if you checked what it was at 9am, you don't need to check again at 11pm unless you were specifically checking for something.

As DI has rightly pointed out this is not a BR issue and may be better off in one of the other forums:)

As someone who is a little familiar with betting sites - Matched betting in the past rather than being a mug punter (so to speak) something does not add up with all of this...

The OP says that one of the deposits was gambled on Poker - depending on which gambling site is used there should be a distinct history of hands/tables/games played with this £900??? It wouldn't just say words to the effect of "you deposited £900 and lost it all on poker". If it is a system glitch like the OP thinks then it's one hell of a glitch and should be easy to show as a glitch rather than an account history showing exactly where each penny/pound of that money was lost...

... and what was the other huge deposit apparently lost on... there should be a history of this aswell..?

My theory... the OP didn't realise that they had deposited these funds themsleves into the account - whether a deposit glitch or finger trouble - and then gambled it away themselves thinking it was free money in their betting account???

What was I checking for then? Assuming it was these transactions, eh? I know what you were implying. Very nice of you :)

We all have to eat, therefore we spend money at shops and use our debit cards. Therefore I phone several times a day to confirm my available balance there and then.

I make a habit of doing this practically every time I use my card just so I know and can hear it from them, exactly what I have.

So why do I do that then? Because I just do. Everyone's different.

So what are my reasons for being different...

I don't have to explain myself all the time just to satisfy your heads. Don't wanna help, don't. Want make other people think "hmmmm", go for it. You know I hate people who interrogate like police just because people are different and they think it's "all very strange."

The poker issue is a completely separate issue demonstrating how the system can screw up and how I believe it did the same again. None of the money in question went on Poker.

No idea what the "you deposited £900 and lost it all on poker" is all about as I never lost anything on Poker. The money was taken and then refunded all before I'd even logged on. I just thought it was weird, and was lucky that it was still there.

Oh, and I also said I never played Poker in my life. I don't even know how the game works.

Think you need to re-read everything before assuming things.

    That's why I written a lot - to explain.
