I think you need to take it further with the bank and the Gambling site.

If you are saying you did not play £2K.xx then somehow the money was withdrawn from your debit card or recorded to be drawn.

I do remember years ago with H!lifax, they took £10 from someone else's account and paid one of my bills. Luckily I noticed they had not withdrawn the money, went in branch to query it, and we found they had debited someone else. The account name and number were not even similar! It was pure human error! So they took the £10 out of my account and credited it to that person's account.

    Banks are not infallible!

and let them look into it.

I don't see why you should repay something that is not your fault?

I didn't know I could take this to the FOS, I thought it would be the gambling commission in which case they are unlikely to take my side. Thank you, this is helpful!

yes true. When they cloned DH's card, they must have copied his 3 digits too.

just trying to say to OP, if they are adamant it wasn't them, then to go down the FOS route. They investigate and ask the companies to provide evidence of their investigations and transactions that occurred, etc.

this should prove what happened and when ?

But why would I transfer money from your bank account to your betting site account.? That's what I do not understand.

If pushed about the transactions im sure the website would have to provide the IP address you logged in with at the time the transactions were made, then your ISP would be able to confirm if or not that was your IP address at that time.

Basically this is not a bankruptcy question and so the expertise on this board are unlikely to be able to help.

As far as i can see you have 2 options, fight to prove that it was not you that made the transactions (fraud, FOS etc) or accept liability

From reading his posts I think hes implying no one did this but it was a site glitch that charged his card then gambled the money away???

no idea, unless someone was hacking OP's pc/laptop and then meant to transfer money to their own account?

wild guesses here. And OP asked for advice, so have given some, rightly or wrongly.

The OP has confirmed they have not bothered to contact the police. If they believe fraud has occured, albeit via a computer glitch, then the police should be informed. They can force the bank and the gambling site to investigate and also liaise with the ISP regarding the IP address.

It's not simply that the police will take it no further because the bank and gambling site say it's not their fault, more that the OP believes something has gone wrong and it needs investigating.

You should certainly close that gambling account and never use online gambling again if you don't want to get caught out a third time.

"So it was showing I have £xxxx available when in reality a large chunk of this had just been authorised to a betting site.. Hence I thought whilst it's there I will give it a go and see if I can get the money BEFORE they take me off me by doing some funds transfers! It worked. I was on my toes for a few days but they eventually went through. As if I'm gonna let them take my own money off me for something I never did..."

If this was fraud how did you know this money was pending?????

Because the OP had rung the bank up for an up to date balance on their acount, it was a couple grand off so they asked what that was for etc. etc. Already been explained earlier in the thread.

It appears OP phoned the betting site for a balance rather than the bank, but why would you not say anything at that point and just withdraw as much money as possible?
