Semi Premium Rate revenue sharing 0844 calls cost the same on TT all the time 24/7 no advantage in calling between 1-5pm.

I wrote "between 1-5ppm" not 1-5pm!! :) ie between 1p per min and 5p per min!

Thats BT rates. Other suppliers can charge what they like Virgin Media and o2 homephone are the two biggest landline culprits ,and some mobile networks charge as much as 40p a min.

Mobiles I can understand, but I'd have thought the point in going for an alternative landline provider was to get better rates than BT not worse?

As Heinz has pointed out many times the cheapest landline provider for 0844 calls is BT.;)

And, depending on the 5th, 6th and 7th digits, their prices range from 0.509p/minute to 5.105p/minute (until the VAT rise in January, they were ½p and 5p respectively).

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Seems TT are the same as BT for 0844 (on the g6 tariff anyway which doctors seem to be on).

Why would anyone go with a landline telco more expensive than BT?

From Ofcom,s Call Cost Guide.
"0843 and 0844
How much do calls cost? Calls are charged between 1p and 13p per minute for landline customers. Calls from mobile phones are typically charged between 20p and 41p per minute, depending on the provider and the number called. "

Which is not strictly true as BT do charge 0.509 a min on some numbering ranges.

GPs with 0844 numbers often have underlying and unpublished 01/02 local numbers.

Perhaps we at SAYNOTO0870.COM could help you shed some light on it. Post in the Requests section of the forum with some background information like the address of the surgery and anything else you can find like the surgery's website.
