Unblocked ?????
Or unlocked ???
Unblocked as the networks have blocked the IMEI usually due to phone reported as stolen and then its blocked by the network .

Complete poppycock. Sounds to me like he's bricked it during the unlock process and is telling you that to get himself off the hook.
Once it's unlocked you can use it anywhere with any SIM-here or abroad. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi JJ
You've got me thinking now !!
My phone & sim card is Virgin. I asked the guy at the stall to make it so that I could take the Virgin sim out when we went abroad & put a local sim in. I wanted to use the same mobile here & abroad, just swopping the sim.0 -
Just seen your post macman.
Can it be unbricked0 -
Just seen your post macman.
Can it be unbricked
It can't be bricked if you were using it abroad. A bricked phone is usually (in my experience, having done it myself) one which fails to start up and do nothing - or tries to start up, flashes and restarts etc.etc.
What network are you trying to use it here in UK?
And what network were you using abroad?0 -

read and understand what Macman is suggesting to you, it sounds like the guy at the market has spun you a line and you fell for it (mug) it's like those guys that tarmac the drive and say not to use the drive for a few days (gives them time to get out of town!) once the handset is unlocked then any sim card from other networks should work in the handset.
Bricking is a slang term for 'running scared)

I was using 'bricked' in the sense of 'he's converted into a brick'.
If he has, you need a new phone (and a new unlocker). No free lunch, and no free laptop

I've used this mobile in Egypt with a Virgin sim several times. The sim cards in Egypt are very cheap & as a friend had bought a local sim & used it in his mobile I thought I would do the same but my mobile had to be able to take different sim cards to do this.
Is my mobile repairable !0 -
The SIM's are physically identical. All your mobile needed was unlocking (not unblocking) to allow it to run on any network.
Since we don't actually know what's wrong with it, no-one can say. But probably not.
What happens when you turn it on-will it power up?
But shouldn't your first port of call be the guy in the market? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks everyone for helping me out.
It seems as though I was conned !! He must have seen a little old lady & thought it would be a good idea to get an easy £15
My Virgin sim works OK but it wont take a different one. So it looks as if I'll have to try again.
Thanks again, much appreciated0
