    Try www.odesk.com

I am currently working through this site and getting a job is easy if you bid low to start. For example, if you are prepared to write a 300 word article for $2, meaning a maximum of $6 an hour, you will find work easily but your work must be good quality.

Once you've gotten some good feedback you can up your prices a bit.

I guess peopleperhour.com is similar - I registered with that site ages ago, but prefer the layout of odesk.com.

As this is a US company I guess they accept workers from the UK?

Is work available on a regular basis though? If the work is just now and then and less then part time it gets a bit complicated for me with JSA and I could end up losing it just for a weeks work. So things like this I'm always a bit unsure of.

Elance.com and odesk.com are freelance sites. They basically aloow freelancers to bid for work from employers. They a bit like an agency. If you are used doing freelance and bidding for work, it can be useful, but remember you will be competing in a global market. That means competing with freelancer from low paid countries.

The big advantage is that the employers pay the site and the site pays the freelancer. The site will usually guarantee paying you even if the employer does not pay them. That is a big advantage, as you could be employed by someone half way round the world.

I have gotten some work via elance. Very low paid, but it is income.

Done agencies in the past and all of them were rubbish, not paying what they should, asking you to re-register because the job had ended, never contacting you. I just don't really like them plus you don't know where the job is or the company name, it maybe somewhere I've worked in the past that I don't want to return to.

In my experience sometimes, although you dont like doing agencies. They will find you work.

Have you tried www.linkedIn.com you can network with people and upload your CV. Ten years touch typing and admin experience would find you a job no problem

Yes, they accept workers from around the world - hence how I have obtained contracts with them, though not being in the US myself.

You can get as much or as little work as you are prepared to do. I have applied for around 12 contracts in the past week and gotten accepted for 4 and had to turn one down due to having too much work to do, because I got repeat requests from two of the employers.

Of course it would pay more than JSA but you will have to work and complete the tasks. Still, if you're not working, it is income and it's done from home (or wherever) and it beats claiming benefits.

I worked out it's around $6 an hour, which is around £4 or £4.50? Not brilliant, but better than nothing and I'm doing a little while on maternity leave.

    How do they pay you?

The concern I have is that I come off JSA and only get a few months work and/or not like it or the pay isn't good, I then can't sign back on. If I was already working and just wanted a bit of extra money, or like yourself on maternity leave and wanting to keep busy, then I think it would be an ideal thing to do in my spare time. I'm not sure if there would be enough work to make it a long term job and that it would pay enough.

Does anyone use these type of sites as their only job and earn enough as a normal job?

Hows your job hunting going, I lost my job last year as an aerospace design graduate with over 10 years experience and couldn't even get an interview never mind a job for all sorts of positions and pay so I know how you feel!!

Some of the jobs I've applied for have been things I would never, ever consider, and like yourself I've not had one interview in this time. I really believe one problem is the minimum wage. If you have to choose between two people for one job and both have no experience and one of them is under 21, I can guess who gets the job.

We just have to keep going, but it's annoying. I really could do with winning the Euro Lottery tonight, then I could get my business started and have a trip to Vegas!

    Hi Kell b.

Why not start own business - start up costs £50 ish plus a bus and/or train pass. What you do is go to the nearest £1 store and buy items like scissors, lighters etc etc everyday items that people always need and that are not too heavy to lug around.

Then you get a sports bag pop em all in there and then get on the bus and get door knocking - selling your items at a good mark up. You will need a hawkers licence but that is just a formality and a few quid ( I think). You will get knock backs but you will also get buyers you just have to remember not to take anything personally.

Try to target the estates as these are usually the type of people to spend and there are lots of houses in one area. (less walking) A mate of mine does this and he heads off in a different direction everyday and it pays him a reasonable return.

Another solid idea that needs little investment is dog walking £10 per hour. And some will also want you to look after them while they are away on their jolly's at circa £80 per week per pet!!

    Good Luck

I know exactly how you feel, being there myself and not for the first time. I used to apply for jobs first thing in the morning when my vibes are not so low and eventually it worked! I'm sure it will this time. Don't forget to tailor your CV for the job you're applying for.

    Good luck!
