Make money?

Options
I'm still unemployed having been made redundant in Sept 2010. As you can imagine money is non existant and I'm nearly £900 overdrawn. My spending is not extravagant so there's not really anything more I could cut back on.

What I'm wanting is ideas to make money that cost nothing or very, very little. I'm already signed up to countless survey sites and PTC/PTR sites and do cashback shopping, so all them angles are already covered. I don't drive and I've noticed that many leafleting jobs want you to have you own car, so some jobs are ruled out straight away.

I'm applying for jobs left, right and centre but I'm having no luck whatsoever. My background is admin work and I'm a touch typist with over 10 years office experience.

All ideas greatly appreciated however odd, weird or wacky you think they are.

I live in the north west, 30 mins from Manchester. Travel is a bit of a problem as I'm on public transport and some places although less then an hour away by car you just can't reach on public transprort. I'd really like driving lessons as this would open a whole host of opportunities to me, but with no money it's not going to happen

Buggar. I asked only cos we are looking to employ an administrator at my company but we are in Milton Keynes :(

So let me think - have you thought about Mopeds? I am looking to get a moped after my holiday as they are dirt cheap to run, you dont need to have driving lessons and if you can pick up a moped for less than £500 then thats great. Plus the insurance is like only £100 or so a year and tax I think is £30. I may be wrong so don't quote me.

Perhaps you could jsut take any job until you can afford to get a car or what not?

Or have you thought about cycling?

Is there anyone who can drive you to work?

Check out http://www.elance.com/ and http://www.fiverr.com/ - see if there are any useful online services (writing, researching, designing) that you could sell online.

Mopeds are out of the question as I have epilepsy and you're not allowed to ride these by law. I do have a bike but I'm not confident on the road so would not do this. As for someone else to drive me to work, my boyfriend works as a taxi driver so with his shifts and sleep patterns it wouldn't work

I have been applying for anything and everything and still no luck. I applied for a retail assistant at a local chemist and never heard back. Many people when they see my background think that I would either be board in the role or that my skills aren't suitable. One problem I have, like many others, is the minimum wage. It cheaper to get a 18 year old with no experience then to employ me a 32 year old with no experience.

So anyone else get any ideas. As I said, I don't mind how weird and wacky :D

Have you tried registering with a few recruiting agencies for temp work? Office workers are the easiest to place in temp roles because they do a variety of work. You'd be ideal for covering all types of things, reception, admin, basic office work like filing etc.

I registered with a recruiting agency last week and my first temp job starts on the 11th of July. I have over 10 years exp as an office manager.

I'd say it is easier to get temp work at the moment. Also check out your local council / university and NHS they often have temporary work bank schemes. Have a look at their websites and register with them as well as the agencies. A good way into an organisation. Also personally I think it is better to accept a temporary job than none at all. There seems to be enough temporary work to go round at the moment - at least where I am. Good luck. Try and keep positive it could turn into a good opportunity for you.

Done agencies in the past and all of them were rubbish, not paying what they should, asking you to re-register because the job had ended, never contacting you. I just don't really like them plus you don't know where the job is or the company name, it maybe somewhere I've worked in the past that I don't want to return to.

I'm just wanting to do something different that I can do now and get my overdraft paid ASAP. As I say any ideas, weird or wacky, will all be considered

You've had lots of advice and i'm sure there'll be more, so far I think folk have been very supportive so i'm sure a few thanks wouldn't go amiss.

My suggestion would be to try and use your skills to set up on your own, that and Matched Betting, if you can get your head around it.
