    I'd be telling him personally. It does depend on any background to it as to how you break the news, but better that than to be "caught".

    When my dad was getting forgetful he got upset when you tried to tell him he wasent quite right about something :(

    Thank you both, you have nicely summarised my dilemma.

    I have this idea of my dad as a difficult beligerent person but he is also now an elderly slightly forgetful man. Recognition of this is why he started writing birthdays down on the calendar. He's not very happy when you point out his fogetfulness to him (Thats a bit of an understatement).

    So I have an initial pressie of a Boots voucher and a second pressie of £30 with an apology for forgetting. I think that is what I find most upsetting. He's apologising for something he hasn't done. Having said that £30 is a hell of lot more useful to an unemployed person than a Boots voucher. A year's leg waxing kits anyone?

    I think I might use it for a Pure radio for his Christmas pressie.

    Not even slightly...

    However my mum did by a little coloured sock for hers.

    And now you're going to ask what colour the sock is...
