    Hi All

    Welcome to July Chat

Hope you're all well. Please come in for a chat about how your day / week / life is going. 'Oldies' welcome, newbies welcome, you don't even need to be old to be an oldie on here.

I've got a dead TV to take to the tip. It's in the back of the car taking up an equivalent amount of space as a Sherman tank.

Then this afternoon I have more jobs to look for. Wish me luck.

The weather is good so I'm in my shorts. Not sure the world is ready for my legs but hey, who asked it :rotfl:

Good luck with the job hunting.

Ohhh chatters! Im not a real oldie but have be around for a bit and am always up for a natter :)

Best of luck on the jobs, Butti, all fingers crossed for you!

Im working like a madwoman today so that hopefully i wont have to do any over the weekend. Very social weekend planned here - out dancing tonight, then two different 4th of July BBQs and a trip to the market planned for over the weekend. A cold is going around and I'll be trying my best not to catch it.

Does anyone have any tips for leash training a dog? I'd like to run with ours for safety's sake (she is a huge softy and loves everyone, but Ugandans are almost universally afraid of dogs and I will feel better being out with her) but she's never been properly leash trained and pulls all over the place. She's small enough that you can control her easily while walking but i imagine I'd be flying if she took a strong tug while Im mid-stride! I certainly wouldnt run with her by a busy road while shes still liable to jet off in all directions.

Hi - for helping stay in control of a strong dog I'd recommend a gentle leader (there are other similar things on the market but I have found these to be the best - although it may depend on the dog breed/nose shape) - its a head collar that goes round the nose, you can buy at amazon and pet shops, although not sure about in uganda!

The gentle leader won't actually train the dog itself of course - but I think it makes taking them out much easier and much less arm-ache and its easier for them to get used to being on a lead but following your orders.

    Thanks SRM and Fermi,

Yes didn't see thread but I wouldn't if it was on page 2.

I'm not a dog trainer NTBY but I always thought you started walking hold a short lead so that the dog is turned slightly towards you and then built up. I would be tempted to do a google search and see what comes up.

Right off to do some weeding in the sun.
