EssexHebridean wrote: »Charlie - just checked with MrEH and he tells me that the girls that work in the firm he's in (City firm in London) dress "smart casual" - so trousers of skirts and smart tops, but certainly not suits. So for this week you ought to be absolutely fine with those trousers and your new tops - mix & match with different shoes and statement necklaces to draw attention away from what's on your legs. Then at the weekend try to pick up another couple of tops and a plain black, navy or grey skirt and repeat the same actions for the next few weeks until you get your first pay and can extend your choices a bit.
Absolutely agree with this. FWIW my dh (also a City firm) only wears a suit when there are client meetings/travel. It makes sense to be smart and well presented if there is potential for a permanant position, but not TOO smart. You want to look as if you fit in ...but stylishly.Huge congratulations. (even if it stays temp its a port in a storm and sounds as if it came at the right time to remind you of your value.)
I think I might hit some samples this week, just so I can have quick UUs:o:o Reporting regularly is the ONLY way to keep up here.
Ins: gift from my mother: two radow bubble baths and another bubble bath.
edit: I've worked in criminal firms (I'm not a lawyer) and they were casual but a friend of mine is in a firm outside london, I called her and she reckons some of the bigger offices outside London are slightly smarter. Be lead by what other people are wearing, and interpret the group style to your individual taste.0 -
CAN I JOIN IN PLEASE???
we're in the process of emptying my MILs house as she has recently (thankfully) passed away due to cancer. She was in a lot of pain and I didn't like seeing her in pain. Anyway I seem to have accumulated most of her kitchen, freezer and bathroom contents - it would be un-MSE to throw away unused products:rotfl:
One slight problem - I appear to lack storage! So its all in boxes all over the place. will make a list as I sort through the boxes and mix it in with all my stuff. If I'm not back by the 15th please send out a search party. xx
Charlie - Congrats on the job. I went to uni in Cardiff and used to know Newport relatively well, coming from near Usk. I need to have a sort out of my wardrobe - if you PM me I might have some work clothes that may fit - happy to send to you.Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -

UU's to report: Wright's Traditional Tar scented soap. WIBA? Yes, I'm a convert, does not irritate my sensitive skin and the scent makes me feel really clean, makes a nice change of smelling of 'nothing' from my normal aqueous cream. I know it's psychological but hey it's nice to smell fresh in the summer.
Loreal soleil expertise spf 30 cream. It's amazing how much cream is left in the tube by cutting it, I had suncream for another month just from the inside. WIBA? Maybe, don't know whether they changed the formula or because I'm using a different toner but it started leaving white marks, which on brown skin does not look very good.
Ins to report: 4 x new bars of the above soap from Savers. Also, finally hunted down a soap dish, I know people use shower gels nowadays but getting this soap dish wash was like finding a precious diamond, looked everywhere even poundland where the staff looked at me as if I had two heads when I asked if they sold it.
Banana boat spf 30 sunscreen: Cheaper than previous sunscreen at £3.99. I'll see how it goes, doesn't feel as moisturising as my other sunscreen.
ETA: Just noticed that I've echoed asset's comments about the amount of product left after cutting tubes open :-)0 -
Charlie Congratulations
I have a UU and an unexpected IN
UU - John Freida conditioner - WNBA as I am weaning myself away from all the cone/ paraben/ SLS stuff. Still have some to go. Started with a herbal essences dazzling shine conditioner now
IN - Found a pack of Nivea Makeup wipes in my bedside drawer. They must be atleast 2 years old and the pack is one-fourth full. Have added them to my stash to use up

Are you curly?I've tried no cones and honestly, it didn;t work for me (hair is all so different!) but reduced shampooing really does work. I was given a bottle of Wen earlier in the year (all gone now, and unfortunately I'd done a buy at TK max for Tigi conditioners). When my other stuff is used up I';; be getting Wen again, my hair loved it.

lostinrates, I am neither curly nor have straight hair. They have a bit of wave. I do straighten/ curl them sometimes. I am thinking of using some homemade stuff for everything once I get rid of all my stash. I may have to experiment a bit to find out what works for me. I will read about Wen. Thanks :-)

I got a soap dish one year for Christmas. I use it all the time now
.
Thanks for all the ideas about what it could be. I'm thinking that it's probably a flare up of IBS (not had for many years) due to the stress of late off duty, split shifts and stress at work. I think I've also aggravated myself when we had to do a sudden move on an extremely large patient. I was the only one there as he started respiratory arrest and had to yank him forwards to get him up a bit. When I have to do something like this, it seems to aggravate my coil placement and I get contractions. Everything in the outbound area is fine thanks EHbut it can be awful to be bunged up. Hopefully work will acknowledge that I couldn't help when I became ill. I did leave it for half an hour before I rang in but DH said I couldn't possibly go in as I was shaking when I was trying to get out some paracetamol and dropped them on the floor.
All they need to do is look at my sickness level. Yeah probably if its still £1, it smells nice and its better than the horrible Treseme one Ive been avoiding, as Ive got nothing else left I guess Ill have to use that one until I buy some more
Just made some sandwiches for me to take to work and I accidently grated my hand instead of the cheese, managed to take a chunk out of my finger now, its so bloody painful and wont stop bleedingnot a good start haha

Wow, that is indeed excellent customer service by BS. I'm impressed!
Jacks- I think reaching your weight loss target deserves more than a magazine and lazy hour in the garden.......:D
As for nail varnishes, I've liked Nails Inc for a while and have, ahem, a number of bottles. I took one on holiday, along with an M&S one. And would you believe, the M&S one lasted 6 days, the Nails Inc chipped after 2 despite a top coat. Same thing now, I painted my nails Friday evening and nearly all of them are chipped. I think a lot of M&S' toiletries are underrated. Plus they're approved by BUAV, which is a nice bonus.
Hope you're all having a good day !
PS . Absinthe fairy, what a funny dream!!
I can't keep nail polish on full stop. I'll pop it on for an evening out or a wedding or something and take it off again at the end because I can't bear chipped polish and it's only a matter of time. I think 48 hours is my personal best for maintaining nail polish. The absolute worst ever ever was a Chanel one. That didn't even last the evening.
Pretty colour though.. for about five minutes!
I may splurge when I hit my target. (weigh in is tomorrow!) At least a heinously expensive BB palette is a treat that doesn't involve wine or chocolate!:D
