Violetta, i bought my felt online, from various places
so i didnt know what quality it would be
some was thin, and i had 3 other "varieties"
the thin worked best for what i did
those ginger bread people i did are about 3" or so, they were to hang on our christsmas tree, so the thinner one was easier to work with on that scale
mind you, mines was more of a "wing it" kinda exercise, nothing like doing the cakes & cushions where a better felt is a must, so it depends on what you are making, the "thin" stuff, wasnt THAT thin
the thick squeeked when you were sewing, it set my teeth on edge eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkk:rotfl:0 -

loving all the xmas decs. My dd and i made some last yr ( purple of course, lol) and they looked stunning on our tree. Were going to start to make more from about sept onwards. felt is so fab to work with. also quite forgiving which is brill.
i buy all my felt online very cheap, and it is a good thickness , i've previously bought some which has been too thin or too thick. once i find a good supplier then i do tend to stick with them even if they aren't the cheapest.
MY children love using felt aswell. my dd sits for ages sewing flowers or such on a piece. she is getting alot more confidant with a needle and thread now.0 -
Phew , I was worried you would all scoff at me for even bothering to mention thin felt.midnightraven3 wrote: »Violetta, i bought my felt online, from various places

Oh dear sorry you ended up spending so much. It has been very hit & miss finding the felt in poundland, it's with all the crafty stuff, I wouldn't say it's worth going out of your way, but if your passing poundland worth having a wee nosey.popped into poundland today no felt or threads in ours so went into my friends shop and got a them instead also talked my way somehow lol into a free pair of pinking shears whoop! decent ones too, now i can get on with my eldests costumeBooo!!!0 -
Well I started making my strawberry on Friday and soon discovered that my only needle was way too big (it was a cross stitch needle) it left big holes in the felt, so now I'm on the look out for a smaller needle! The strawberry though seems quite simple - its just a semi-circle of felt which is sewn in half and then a star shape which is attached to the top, I need to practice my french knots though, when I finally finish it I'll post some pics. I had a look through my book and the cakes look fabulous although a lot of them need sponge type stuffing rather than normal stuffing so I'm not sure what to use.
I spotted these on ebay and thought I'd buy a couple for my neices' xmas presents. Here is the seller that I bought my kits from, only trouble is she lives in Canada!!! I love this seller too, but her stuff is so expensive!
Mary-op - thanks - I think I'll need it.0
