A sale is only complete once the buyer is happy - so if i sell, i return feedback ONLY once left for me. If the buyer does not leave feedback - then the sales is not yet complete - as they may come back to you.

If i buy - i leave feedback once i have used the item and know its ok.

All you buyers saying "once a buyer pays they have fulfilled their part" have clearly not had to deal with buyers who try it on after the item as been posted. Leaving feedback for a buyer who then openly abuses you or scams you after the sale, is hardly sensible. There are also fraudulent payments to deal with and chargebacks. A buyer paying is only the start of the process.
But that accords too much weight to the odd problem buyer and shows your direct attitude to buyers in itself. If you think everyone is out to rip you off, then of course they are going to be. If you treat everyone like a potential scammer, then I certainly don't want to buy from you.

Until I have to take references with me to M&S when I go to buy some knickers there, I will never agree with buyers being forced to have them on eBay.

I wouldnt want you buying. I would much prefer the old style ebayer who waited patiently for their item after paying, and then left feedback when it arrived.

As for scammers - are you realy saying that if you post something and then the buyer gets abusive and threatens you and says thanks for the free item - its right they get pos feedback? I'm not suprised all the scammers seem to have good feedback if looney sellers are happy to give it them.

I deliberatly do all i can to drive away awkward people from my listings - anything for a quiet life. Eg i state dispatch time of 5 days and sometimes 10 days, and that postage is second class - i really post next day 1st class - but i don't want impatient buyers who expect it yesterday.

As i have said - its not just about scammers - that was just an example. The sale is not complete until the buyer leaves feedback - that is the time sellers should. In fact, i use an automated feedback system that reponds to feedback recieved. So it must be common practice.

As for ebay engineering manners from buyers - what you and most newcomers forget - is that ebay was started for a normal person in the street to sell his items to another normal person. There was no business involved. Many sellers on ebay are just everyday folk clearing out the cupboards - and they are subject to the same sort of abuse normally given to the likes of Tesco or Argos. Just because big business have taken over ebay - does not mean private sellers cannot expect a bit of respect.

Quantity of feedback is unimportant after the first 20 or so - its the quality.

As I previously stated - just paying fro the item does not make you a good buyer

As a buyer I leave feedback on receipt of item - to let the seller know it has arrived safely.

As a seller I leave feedback once the buyer has as I like to know they are happy before 'finalising the transaction (and in my mind once feedback is left it is all done and dusted). I NEVER leave feedback on receipt of payment - there is more to being a good buyer than just paying!

Spot on. Its common sense really.

Sorry, but I disagree, and this is what I was getting at earlier. In a commercial situation, the only thing the buyer has to do is pay. eBay has engendered this attitude of "manners" etc. but in reality there's nothing different to buying on eBay than there is on Amazon (where buyers can't get visible feedback) or in an offline shop where there is no need to keep references with me when out shopping. Yes, I suppose you could argue that someone can behave politely or impolitely, but it also depends on how sellers sort the problems out and to a certain extent your job as a seller is to deal with stroppy customers without letting them know about it.

Claiming that eBay is different is misleading. In fairness to you, you're probably not a bad seller, but I don't consider that I have many more responsibilities when I press "Pay" and I resent the implication I have to somehow roll over and beg if I want my item. I don't give a hoot about feedback as a buyer, but I know my rights as a customer.

If an item doesn't arrive or is damaged in the post, it's the seller's responsibility.

I am not talking about items that go missing in the post - I know that is my responsibility to sort out. I am not talking about buyers that are moderately stroppy - I know that as a seller you just deal with it.

I am talking about buyers that do fraudulent chargebacks. I am talking about buyers that buy an item from you and then claim it is damaged but refuse to send you a photo or return it. I am talking about buyers that opt for second class delivery despite you recommending first class and then swear at you because the item is not there the next day (which happens to be a bank holiday). I am talking about buyers that state they got a 'blue' jumper when they bought a 'red' jumper and you know full well the jumper was red as you don't have them in blue.....etc etc.

I will not leave positive feedback for scammers, chancers and liars just because they paid!

What if they say they want to return it and it never arrives back - is that the sellers responsibilty too?

A positive feedback and refund i presume with no goods back?

Lucky buyer i say. Can i have your ebay id - ive got an urge to buy your goods.

No wonder you're so worried about all buyers being scammers, if you're judging them by your own standards

I have started an ebay business recently. Sales are around 80 so far in about 6 weeks, however I have so far only received about 40 feedback, even some buyers who are repeat customers have not left feedback, despite the fact that they were obviously happy enough with my products and service to buy again. A few of my first customers have also not left feedback even though the sale was 6 weeks ago! Is this normal? Do people usually take ages to leave feedback?

As a private buyer, I either leave it within a day or two if it's obvious there is not going to be a problem with an item, and I am happy, or at the most a week or two to check it out, by which time I know whether I am happy with an item or not.

I have 100% feedback and 5 stars accross the board, so I'm happy that customers are pleased with my products and service - it's just quite a lot of them don't seem to be leaving any feedback.

If it bothers you not having feedback from everyone - leave it first.
It just winds you up when you do this - and then the buyer starts abusing you for no reason, and you can't take it back.

In my 12 years using Ebay - i find the good buyers will just leave you feedback and will want it returned pretty quickly. A buyer knows pos feedback will be returned. If a sellers leaves a positive - some buyers then leave a negative for no reason.

The ones you don't get it from without dragging it out of are not really worth chasing. Your better off without the feedback from this sort of buyer who resents leaving it first - as they are more likely to give you glowing feedback with a few 1 and 2's on your DSR thrown in.

Be happy with your 50% - its probably the better half.

I'm not worried - about 98% of ebayers are honest.

But if a buyer cant be bothered confirming receipt and that they are happy with the item by leaving feedback - why should i. Simples.

As for my own standards - i am too honest. But i find you lot defending scammers very curious indeed. Touching a nerve? I call your little clique scammers corner. Your always defending the rights of scammers against honest ebayers - why?

    Quality?

As I said earlier, the only feedback you'd ever get from me would be a neg or a neutral, with very low stars on comms as well.
With the attitude that "every buyer is a scammer, I can't leave feedback in case they try to get one over on me" I'm far more inclined to be unsympathetic, whereas "paid promptly" gets a positive and good stars.
Didn't you say your stars were scraping along the bottom?
So if your quantity is low, and the quality is low, you know why.
Because no one trusts you either, and it shows to the rest of us, and that's why Olias is 100%, and 5 stars.
