Bought a house and now found a SOLD plate attached to it

Ours was taken down a couple of days after completion without us having to ask.0

Assuming the purchase has completed and the house is actually now yours:
Ask the agent to to remove it immediately.
If they do not, take it down yourself and let them know where and when they can get it back (it's their property so you would be liable if you were to damage it or discard it altogether).0 -
OP, please define 'bought'...
Offer accepted?
Contracts exchanged, or missives concluded?
Completed?
Moved in?0 -
A relative has just agreed a sale on their property. It hasn't completed yet. The EA has just printed postcards showing the house and stating that it has been sold. These have been sent to every house in town.
Angry? The EA's telephone nearly melted."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
In this time of hardship, who would know if the EA sign somehow sprouted legs and ended up in the chimney or stove?? :rotfl:0

Exactly. EA signs get stolen by drunks returning from the pub all the time.;)
My Dad had a problem with an Estate Agent in the 90's. A For Sale board would appear on the verge next to my Dad's house and remain there for months on end. And the cheeky !!!!!! would also use pics of my Dads house in their advertising. Dad got fed up with people knocking on the door and asking for an "on the spot viewing."
We didn't know that we could complain to anyone in those pre-internet days so we used to remove it and lay it down on the verge. And it got put up a few days later. So we started "liberating" the signs and throwing them in skips. After a dozen signs disappeared the next sign was wired to the street name. And we used to liberate that too with wire cutters.
The signs stopped when my brother and his mates rolled up from a nightclub at 6am on a Sunday morning to find the cheeky !!!!!! estate agent putting up a new sign himself. He got the message when my brothers mate, "Meat" Conroy, grabbed him and fished for the waistband of his boxer shorts and started twisting the EA's boxer shorts into an atomic wedgie. :rotfl:The man without a signature.0 -
When my OH bought his house, the EA didn't bother collecting their sign until he offered to post it through their letter box!0

I took mine down & left it behind the wall, phoned the EA where it was & they came & collected it.0

I just bought a house and now found a SOLD plate attached to it. There was no FOR SALE plate since vendor was probably objecting it. I understand agents want a free advertisement but would not it be nice to ask my permission first?
I've got the following questions:
1. Would you like or not to have a SOLD plate on your property? Are there any resons why it is not good to keep it?
2. Can I ask agents to remove the plate?
3. How much time would it probably be there if I do not ask it to remove?
1. No, I would just remove it, leave it in my garden and inform the agents to come and get it. Which they would no doubt do, in the fullness of time.
I can't understand why you haven't thought of that yourself!0 -
Have you completed?
If/when you move in, just ask for it to be removed. I've never waited more than a few days for it to go.

The SOLD plate has been erected a few days after I completed and moved into the property.
What could be a reason for not wanting it on the property?
And one more question. Would I need to keep good relations with the estate agents for any reason provided I have already completed and moved in? Would my request to remove a sing damage those relations?0
