Bought a house and now found a SOLD plate attached to it

I just bought a house and now found a SOLD plate attached to it. There was no FOR SALE plate since vendor was probably objecting it. I understand agents want a free advertisement but would not it be nice to ask my permission first?
I've got the following questions:
1. Would you like or not to have a SOLD plate on your property? Are there any resons why it is not good to keep it?
2. Can I ask agents to remove the plate?
3. How much time would it probably be there if I do not ask it to remove?
Update: The SOLD plate has been erected a few days after I completed and moved into the property.

Once you have completed you can do what you wish with the sign. Until then it is not your house.0

I think its pretty normal to take it down or request it taken down when you move in.0

From my experience of EAs they will leave signs there as long as possible until someone says something about it.Thinking critically since 1996....0

Have you completed?
If/when you move in, just ask for it to be removed. I've never waited more than a few days for it to go.

OP, have you completed on the sale.
If you have, and they have stuck it up after you completed its a bit naughty.
If they did it before you completed, then yes they have stuck it there to advertise to their fellow competitors and Potential vendors that they've sold it.
Estate agency boards should be up for no longer than 14 days after completion.
When I was in the property game, we would speak to all our new buyers and ask them if they would mind keeping the board up for a week or so after completion, for basically a bit of advertising.
Some people said yes, some said no0 -
We had a sold plate put up on ours from another agency - the one we didn't buy from (it had been marketed through two agents)! And it didn't just say sold either - it said "another property sold by xxxxx agency" so it was not even a statement of fact! It disappeared of it's own accord about a week later. I thought it was quite funny really
It was put up after completion as well.
The guys we bought from picked up their for sale sign a couple of days after completion and didn't replace it with a sold sign at all.
Give them a ring if you want shot of it, they should come and pick it up. If you can move it, there is no harm in doing that either.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
We haven't got a for sale board on our house, but when we (briefly!) went SSTC the EA rang and asked if he could get a sold board put up - he said it was good advertising for them, and buyers were often reassured if they saw a sold sign. Until you have completed on the sale, it's the vendor's house and they can decide whether or not to have a sold sign.0

When we put our house up for sale the estate agents put a for sale sign up but we pulled out a few weeks later. However the agents didn't come round for their sign for ages and we were sick of seeing it so we sent them an email saying if they didn't pick it up then it would be disposed of - it was gone the following day!0

Ours took the sold board down the day after completion without us having to ask them. Thankful for it since EA boards are a personal pet hate of mine!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
