Aldi/ Lidil wine

Options
Hi
I saw a thread about the spirits in Aldi/ Lidil and was wondering what the wines are like - £2.99 seems very cheap

I buy the white zinfandel (that's a rose lol!) from lidl which is called Cimarosa and it is my favourite wine ever, it's £3.79 a bottle and really lovely, not sure about any of the £2.99 ones though

I have tried the £2.99 Hungarian Chardonnay from Aldi and was pleasant. My friend tried a £2.99 red wine (Merlot?) and it was horrible.

Gotta say not the best as a rule, ok for cooking with. Ditto Home bargains stuff. But all purely subjective of course.

Beers from said stores more than acceptable at a very good price.

I've tried most of the Lidl reds (Cimarosa). They are not brilliant but far better than a bottle of £2.99/£3.79 red from sainsburys/Mr T/Asda IMO. As someone previously said it's totally subjective though.

Nothing wrong with the Wolf Blass Chardonnay that occasionally comes at a great price in Home Bargains - albeit sometimes in a plastic bottle.

Quite handy really when you drop the bottle after downing a few!71.gif

Aldi do a nice New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc for £4.99 (though that is a bit more than the cheaper wines).

I like Aldi's Budavar Hungarian red wine - it is really mild and fruity - but my fave is their £5 Rioja something or other in a gold spangly net. Gorgeous, really vanilla-y and smokey oak taste (beware the corks are poop and if they fall in the wine goes sour)
