You may be better off asking on the gardening forum: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=134

I just paid £20 in Homebase for a bottle of liquid concentrate that claims to cover 540m2. Think there was a bottle half the size for about £13, they also had ready to use sprays.0

You can also buy Roundup in crystal form in sachets (if they still do it). A good bit cheaper if I remember. Just mix it with water and off you go. I find it better to use a sprayer. You can control the output better and that saves lots of time, energy and money.0

Use glyphosate which is the active ingredient of RoundUp. Buy it in concentrated form and dilute for use. You may have to examine the packaging to see if it contains glyphosate, and it will be in small letters. Companies will usually use a trade name instead of the generic one. RoundUp will be the most expensive due to advertising etc.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Have you any rhubarb ?
Rubarb leaves are an extremely potent weedkiller and everything else for that matter, a few leaves boiled down in an old saucepan ( never use it again ) and a few pints of water will kill everything in sight.
If you do be extermely careful where you spray it and keep animals and people well away, wash hands and clothing thoroughly afterwards. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
I'd recommend Resolva 24h - it worked much faster & better than anything else we've tried - we could see them dying by next day! It was a similar price to the other named brands but this one did the job really well with just one spraying so overall it was a cheaper option for us as (we normally had to nearly drown the weeds in weedkiller & respray 2 or 3 times to get rid of them - I think we have mutant weeds in our garden!)0

Resolva is indeed a good weedkiller - it contains glyphosate as mentioned previously in the thread. However, it contains a second active ingredient which is a contact weedkiller. This means that you can tell within 24-48 hours whether the weedkiller is going to be effective as the leaves start to die quickly. You then need to leave the plant for about 2 weeks for the glyphosate (a systemic weedkiller) to work its way down to the roots to kill the rest of the plant.0

Yes glyphosate takes time. I sprayed some on bindweed, and it took about 2 weeks before the bindweed started dying.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0
