I just think that Tesco hire staff who are great at first then become lazy and the managers aren't supervising them enough (unless there is a visit).

I would always check receipts and shelf edge labels in Tesco to avoid being stung as they do try to run stores on fewer members of staff.

Or maybe the staff are over worked. I know from experience(non tesco) that when changing the sel's are needed to be changed it had to be done by a set time. Stores will always need staff, staff to fill the shelves, staff to do reductions, staff to merchandise new lines onto the shelf, staff to fill the gondola ends eg new offers starting, none of these jobs plus more dont get done by magic.

It's either human error on the part of the shelf stackers or very underhand and sly, on behalf of the store.

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

I tend to think its done to try to con the shopper out of money. Great big offer signs and then the customer thinks everything contained in the offer location is included in the offer deal.

Sometimes, customers pick something up. Finds a similar product on offer. Dumps the original product in the promo section. Ten mins later, another customer picks this product up and thinking its part of the offer.

A persistent trait with Morrison's - a regular occurrence that cannot be due to staff errors.

Regarding the OP's situation with Tesco - I had a similar situation today where their 5 for £4 deal on frozen meals caused a bit of confusion.

I selected 5 boxes all in the same fridge cabinet however, it transpired that one of the boxes was not included in the offer and I believed was somewhat misleading.

To be fair to Tesco - after explaining to the customers service desk that the meals were all of similar packaging, it could lead to confusion, they honoured the offer.

You cannot get fairer than that - problem resolved, although I think more prominent labelling would have avoided the situation.

I would always check receipts from any retail outlet.

I agree sometimes customers can put products where they shoudn't be, but in this instance the fridge containing the 3 for £10 or 4 for £12 offers had about 20 packs of the sirloin steak.

I am sure Tes#o knew quite well what they were doing in putting the steak packs along side the meats on offer.

Another crafty way to get unsuspecting customers to part with money.

I was in Asda today and they had lots of offers on meat in their chillers. 2 for £7, 2 for £6 and 2 for £5 - all mixed. I wanted one of one offer and another of another offer. I ended up buying nothing as I didn't want to pay full price for both singly (if that makes sense to you, then well done for understanding :p ). I went to the local butcher instead.

I reckon that it's intentional and that they get enough customers who don't check their receipts to make it worth their while doing this.

I can just see the marketing meeting:

Marketing bod: If we put some higher priced but similar product on the shelf with the offer product, the higher priced product will be bought by customers thinking that it's part of the offer.

Other board exec: But won't we then have problems with savvy shoppers who realise this and get DTD? It could cost us in the end.

Marketing bod: Well, obviously there are going to be some who check their receipts, but our research shows (clicks on a powerpoint graph) that the majority of our customers just pay and go.

Board exec: Ok, we'll give it a 6 month trial period to see how it goes.

6 months later, marketing bods forecast has shown true so store implements the policy as standard.

That can't be true as Tesco are not a public sector organisation.

And they will be feeling self satisfyingly smug at their deviousness as they pick up their huge bonuses.
