My daughter has received some money....

My 15 year old daughter has received a payment into her bank account of over 600 pounds - I believe this has been paid into her account in error by the bank (cheque paid in at "Prescot St") .
My question is, if she withdraws the cash from her bank, could she get into trouble ?
If she leaves it in the account, is it hers to keep?
I would love her to be able to keep it as she has been through a lot over the past couple of years & she deserves it, however I'm not sure what advice I can give her, so I thought I would ask on here.
Many thanks for any advice.

I'm pretty sure the bank can ask for it back at any time. I'm sure she deserves it but its not her money:oFinally debt free, all thanks to this site and all the posters:j0

If she touches it - she will be guilty of theft.
Please go to the bank with her and make them take the money into one of their suspense accounts.0 -

She deserves to gain from a mistake that sees someone else £600 out of pocket?0 -
This is a wind up surely?
You want to let your 15 year old keep someone elses money? If she found it in the street would you also keep it?
What values to share with your children!!!June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000 -
If she withdraws it as jones said it will be theft, people can and do go to prison for doing just this sort of thing. She (possibly you since she is a minor) should notify the bank as soon as possible about the error, someone will be looking for the money.0

Transfer it to a savings account, and let it sit there (until someone claims it) and it takes around 6 yrs i think for the money to be 'hers'
and contact bank.• HSBC (Main A/C)
• Halifax Back up A/C
• Lloyds (Spending) A/C
• RBS Back up A/C
• Barclays Old A/C

I think the bank should be notified and all banks should provide a better service to allow those that receive these sums to carry on without a temporary distorted financial balance.
In spasms of insanity I send money to close family members. I hope that the reference field alerts them from where the money came.
Even if this was missing surely the originators sort code and account number is a key indicator as to where the money came from ?
Are we all missing an obvious part of the puzzle ?

Except that the OP states it was a cheque paid in at one of the banks branches, so the only way to get the account number and sort number is to get a copy of the cheque. It sounds like someone has filled out a paying in slip and put an incorrect number on the slip, or the bank has misread the numbers 1 for 7 for example.0
