My advice, go into you're branch with your daughter, speak about it with an advisor, and move on (hopefully with a smile an £600 better off) :PDebt in June 2011: Debt amount £1248

Honesty hopefully in this case will earn a reward, if not now, later in life.0

what happens to the person who deposited it?
if they made a mistake (as opposed to the cashier in the bank), can they claim it back? if so how? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

How do you know it's the bank's mistake? Someone might have entered the wrong details on a paying in slip. Some of the posts on here are shocking - it's nothing short of moral bankruptcy to suggest that the money should be kept.0 -
I deserve to get £600 from somewhere too!. However I know right from wrong as does my daughter. I would class it as theft. It could belong to some other 15 year old who deserved it as well!Maureen0

Do you want your daughter to be dishonest when she grows up? Is it worth it for the sake of £600, or for any amount of money for that matter?? I truly believe that "what goes around comes around" and that if your daughter is honest she will be rewarded somehow. Hope you make the right decision......
On a few occasions money has been deposited in our account by accident - some were large figures like £40k - but I always told the bank that the money was not mine. (This was my old bank who made numerous mistakes on my accounts as well.) I did not have any choice in the matter because thankfully my mother taught me this lesson when I was young.0
