Yes I know, but as the previous dispatched orders have been TA-082 boards then there is a pretty good chance these will be as well. Just got to hope that they are not 2.80 firmware.

As I said in my last post, double check to make sure that the mobo is a TA-082 before doing anything. Good luck - my psp was a freebie from tesco (they overcharged me - full R&R on the PSP and Tekken ) ) and came with 2.60 firmware (non TA-082 mobo). Here's its history:

2.60 > 2.71 > 1.5 > 2.71 > 1.5 > 3.02OE-A > 3.02OE-B.

Now got 3x 2gb (all fakes, with no issues), 1x 512mb, 1x 128mb and 1x4gb memory cards, and they are all full (with stuff left over on my PC.) The 128mb card is full of GBA games and a GBA emulator. Playing original PS games on my PSP is brilliant.

So just to make it clear, if we receive a TA-082 then all is well unless it is firmware 2.8?
Lord knows how people have the nerve to try things like this out before other folk. I've been reading up, watching videos and taking to people since I placed the order on Christmas day.

Correct!

TA-082 PSP with 2.71 or lower firmware = DOWNGRADEABLE!

TA-082 PSP with 2.8 firmware = DON'T DOWNGRADE!

Non TA-082 PSP with 2.8 or lower firmware = DOWNGRADEABLE!

I was cacking myself when I first did mine. However, if you follow the instructions to the letter, you'll be fine. Did my mate's son's PSP tonight. Was cacking it again, as it wasn't mine. Went without a hitch.

Mind you, all this makes no difference whatsoever if all you want to do is play original games on the machine .... as Sony actually intended.

A bit like all those people who have bought region 2 dvd players, only to use a remote hack to make them multiregion. Eh?

I am not saying whether it is right or wrong .. just stating a fact, that if the buyer is only purchasing the machine to play original games then all of this is totally immaterial.

People who make their dvd players multiregion do so largely to play American dvds (again originals) .. people that copy dvds know how to strip the multiregion protection out of the disk beforehand and so do not need a multiregion player.

Ah, but the whole point of region coding on DVD players is to stop people importing DVDs from other regions due to distribution rights, price etc. So, playing a DVD bought from the US is no different from playing a pirate dvd. Either way, you're stopping the UK distributors from getting their slice of the pie.

Playing a region 1 dvd though is not illegal and you can legally buy them from places like CDWOW .. even if it does deny the distributor some royalties.
You cannot buy a pirate dvd from CDWOW

Slight difference.
