People here shouldn't get too excited .. how I read this thread earlier firmware 2.71 came with one of the posters PSP but the ones we have on order are a new batch that Viking got in and they could just as easily be the 2.80 firmware .. sorry to put a downer on things but nothing can be done with that firmware yet.

Finding out firmware version without opening the box

Look at the barcode on the box.





Meaning of the letter on the barcode label:

A = 1.5 confirmed
B = 1.51 confirmed
C = 1.52 confirmed
D = 1.52 confirmed
E = 1.52 confirmed
F = 2.0 confirmed
G = 2.01 confirmed
H = 2.50 confirmed
I = 2.60 confirmed
J = 2.70 confirmed
K = 2.71 confirmed

Those are the firmware versions. Although unconfirmed as of yet, L is supposed to be firmware 2.8 which can't be downgraded as of yet on a TA-082 PSP.

The new batch were expected in today so they may be a totally different firmware to the ones Viking already shipped.

Another option for people who can't get the code to work (You need to switch to the business site to get round the 14.12.06 error) is to get one from PC World, they have a 1 week offer with a PSP (Black or white) and Ridge Racer 2 for £142.99. This is avaliable for collect instore or free del. The PSP @ viking was coming out at £122 with the code (but no game), The PC world one works out at £113 if you take off £29.99 (current cost elsewhere for the ridgeracer 2 game).
