If we classes child benefit as being 'on benefits' then half the working population of the country are all 'on benefits' too lol.

That's the problem with this country 99.9% of parents claim child BENEFIT (the clue is in the name)t, 90% claim tax credits. There are loads of "working" people getting more in benefits than they are in wages. That's why the government has more money going out in benefits than it has coming in taxes. It seems as if most people these days feel "entitled", have no self respect, and want to be benefit scroungers.

I agree the state has become to focused on giving from taxes rather than getting business to pay wages that are enough to live off but it's a hard thing to undo now it's done. The need for tax credit top-ups isn't really the publics fault though, wages were lower than the basic cost of living for many so the government topped people up. Thus there has no longer been a need for business's to pay better wages and readdress the balance which in turn would be much better for the economy and much better for the business's themselves too. But like I say, very hard to undo now, it could only be achieved by a somewhat staggered method over quite some time.

I know someone who won on a cash for life card. As it's a monthly income they pay tax on it.
    Well done Daryld.

Here we go again. Lets slag of those who are less fortunate and require the 'safety net' that the welfare state provides.

If the national minimum wage was set at a realistic level, or if employers followed a moral code of conduct and paid a decent rate of pay instead of the current NMW, then there would be no need for tax credits.

As it stands, whether or not you like it, people are 'entitled' to the tax credits and it is because of the fact that the NMW is simply not enough to live on even for those working 48hours+.

Increase the NMW to a decent amount and you rid people of the need for tax credits in a majority of cases.

Child benefit is a benefit though, more so really than many others, as people often dont choose to become ill or unemployed. But people usually choose to have children, or do so through their own actions.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

Weyhey good for you, it's nice to hear that someone has got something to treat themselves.
    Have a wonderfull weekend.
btw I could be wrong, but I think you only get taxed once it's paid into a bank account.
    (but i'm probably wrong)
