Sound but no vision on TV.

Can someone give me some advice, please?

I have a Phillips TV and a Bush freesat box.

Am sometimes getting sound but no picture and this is happening more and more.
Have unplugged everything, re plugged it all. Done this several times.

Is it likely to be the freesat box or the TV that's causing the problem?

Thanks in advance.

There's a 50/50 chance it's the Bush box or the TV on the info you've given! Try the box on a different TV, and try the TV using its own tuner, or a DVD player or something else plugged in. If you do suspect the box, what's your satellite signal like?

This happened a few months ago with my LG Tv. Only 3 years old, but when i called out someone to repair, it was the screen that had gone. According to the engineer its becoming more and more common. Ended up having to fork out for a new tv and this time getting an extended warrenty. (sold the broken tv on ebay for parts and got just under £100 back)

    Tried a new scart lead?

To rule out scart leads and sockets view through the RF out on the stb.

Thanks both for responses. Much appreciated.

Very funny, almillar about 50:50 chance of one or t'other, made me smile.

Don't have another TV to plug into the box and don't have a DVD player to plug into the TV. We're a one TV household!

Satellite signal is fine when screen is showing the picture. TBH, I don't rate Phillips TVs.

Mr Lizard, was yours an intermittent problem?

Am thinking I'll have to bite bullet and buy new TV but don't want to spend lots of cash and then find it was the freesat box that's to blame.

Kurtis, don't have another scart lead that fits unfortunately.

Could you translate 'view thro the RF out on the stb', for me pls? Am just a stoopid girl, though I think RF is radio frequency isn't it?
    Thanks for responding, much appreciated.

Scart leads have the same plug both ends (just some wired differently) so don't understand. Anyway you can get one for a few pounds in a supermarket or around a £1 in a pound or 99p shop, be worth spending a little now may save the cost of a new TV.

Freesat boxes don't have RF in or out so ignore that.

EDIT: Missed the freeSAT part as above you wont have an RF out, in my defence I am just a stoopid boy.
  • Do you get no picture at all, or do the menus etc from freesat box show with no broadcast picture?
What does it show instead of the picture its should show?

Mine started off as an intermittant problem. For about 4 months it never come on first time, just the sound but no picture, but after turning it on and off once or twice it came on and the picture was fine.

Eventually it started to take longer to come on, and then didnt come on at all. :(

I initially thought it was a loose wire or something but it wasnt the case. And i still had to pay a call out fee!

I hope this isnt the case with your tv, but if it is, remember you can re coup some of it by selling the parts.

Can you not take the box and the TV to a friend's and swap each out in turn to see which is the faulty item?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
