  • Managed to make some lentil soup, since I like the tinned version and it was really nice and creamy! Impressed as was worried as never cooked with lentils before and worried but turned out very well. Said to rinse well but still kept looking abit murky looking the water, but been an hour and Im not dead yet!

Thought i'd give this daily lark a go and come over and say hi:wave:.

Have been visiting the OS boards quite a bit so maybe best to join in a little.

Today has mainly been a walk to town via the long scenic route, as need the exercise and it's too nice not to with the lovely views and all. Needed to visit the bank and then walked up to Sainsers for some shopping.

This afternoon have been cooking meals for the freezer with all the excess lentils i seemed to manage to cook yesterday so I have a veggie shepherds pie and a lasagne all wrapped up for quick dinners after our hopeful days out in the impending school hols. Tonight I'm making Tuna Wedges and salad & melon for dessert :D.

Have also taken photo's of some things I'm listing on ebay tonight and then really must sit and do some comps...have got really out the habit...oops, and take back my library books and pick up 2 I had ordered.

I think DH will be off out paragliding again tonight after work so will have peace to get on.

JackieO - slow down, you are making me tired!
Lou - thinking of you, take care.
    Welcome to the Newbies.
Hugs to anyone else in need or want.

Finding it increasingly difficult to get on here, I manage to read most days but don't have time to post. Still, tomorrow is the last day of term so I will only have one job for 6 weeks. It was the church service this afternoon which went well and the weather held long enough to walk the children to church and back. The last couple of days have been lovely but it's raining again now.

Just about managing to keep on top of the cleaning/washing, etc but will have to give every room a good bottoming next week.

DD at work, she was sent home yesterday as she was the passenger in a car with a poor driver. Apparently the woman forgot that the car was automatic and DD ended up hitting the windscreen with her head and the dashboard with her knee. She has also staved her thumb and has a sore back. She has been for a check up today at the doctor who says it is all bruising. As it's private land and they are in and out of vans and cars all day they don't wear seatbelts. I think she will now!

Not sure what's for tea tonight, DD going to the cinema and I am going to work at 7. Had pheasant last night that someone gave us - glad I hadn't bought it and probably wont be having it again - not really my thing but it was free!!

    Take care all. XX

The rain has missed us this afternoon, I was in the city centre and the rain accompanied me all the way home, until I got to my sister's, I was worried as the washing was still out, but it hasn't been this far south :D So the washing is ALL dried and folded. :j I am easily pleased.

EDIT NPM I have pm'ed you on FB ;)

    Afternoon All

Spent 4 hours this morning cleaning at Mum's, had no idea it had got so bad, have been washing down walls, hoovering lampshades, cleaning paintwork. Told Mum I would come back next week and clean her kitchen inside and out and scrub the bathroom. My Mum was always so particular about everything so it felt good to be able to help her out. Then came home and cleaned my own house, think I'll have a break from cleaning tomorrow;).

Have been to my local butcher and stokced up.

Welcome new peeps, RACHELS have you tried shopping in places like Lidl and Aldi, found I save a fortune in there and always call it my "poverty shop". Don't know how old your children are but I'm sure there's stuff on one of the other boards about re-useable nappies and the costs, plus pros and cons.

JAXX OMG that's awful, glad your doc picked up on it.

Off to cobble together some HG salad for tea.

    Have a good night all

    sistercas - hope you're soon feeling better x x
I'm sneezing a bit and my head is stuffed up bu at least my sore throat is a bit better. I'm sure I got this cold cos I've been a bit lax taking my zinc tablets lately! They really seem to help me stop catching any bugs as I used to get lots of colds before I started taking them. Also take garlic too.

lawns all mowed, DH has strimmed. 4 loads of washing done plus the ironing:j last load still on the line.

Fish and chips and mushy peas for tea - something easy as I'm off out to SW shortly. DH can cook it while I'm out.

have a nice evenng all x

Dh and i spent the afternoon after my hair appointment sitting out on the seafront in the main city- we have a friend who is a motorcycle cop and she was holding court with her girl fiends in a cafe looking out across the bay. she kept dodging off to deal with incidents but the party lasted late into the evening.her friends are seriously beautiful women and married to some well minted men-its another world! They were all aghast at my hair and said they wouldnt let their other halves suffer like that!!-it doesnt hurt but looks quite fierce!

Hmm, this money saving lark can be tough, and one of the toughest things about it is all the juggling you have to do to keep focused on all the areas of life. Worry too much about feeding your kids well...spend too much money. Spend too much money, get into debt. Too much time cleaning, not enough time job hunting. etc etc. I am struggling with the old 'not enough hours in the day' thing at the minute...so why am I on here?

Well, just totted up my totals and massively over on my grocery bill. I've been really frugal, or so I thought, but have spent nearly £160 for the four of us plus 2 cats in the past 2 weeks. It includes nappies for 2, but still! I remember I used to do a week's shopping for under £30 for the 2 of us a few year's ago, without much effort. But no car atm and so I've been going to sainsbury's as well as the local cheap greengrocer, and it's added up horribly. I feel sick with worry about it. Going to try and do a menu plan now for the next week in the hope it will help a bit. Any tips would be welcome.

Well if your finding your grocery bill is going up as you're shopping at lots of different places then bit obvious I'd stick to shopping in one place. I like Sainsbugs, their Basics stuff (although creeping up a little in price these days) I think is really nice quality and their loose basics apples are the cheaper even than the greengrocers by me.
My meal planner is based on the meals we like to eat and I work off that. Some people base their meals on what they have in stock in their cupboards/freezer whereas I buy only the items I need to make that weeks meals IYSWIM. It's about finding a way that works for you. As for two in nappies......well that's always going to be an added cost. Would you consider switching to reusables?
