I lived in Beeston in south leeds for a while and would not go back to that area!! Morley is nice but again it is very mixed. you do definately get more for your money in morley though!
Horsforth is lovely but quite a normal surburban sort of area..if you head towards Rawdon from Horsforth there are some great houses with lovely views. Rawdon is a nice village but not much going on!
Have you considered Shadwell in North Leeds? just north of the ringroad, some nice modern estates and older houses, not far from the nice countryside. The villages between Leeds and Harrogate are gorgeous but you certainly pay for it! you do ahev asubstantial budget so I wouldn't rule it out if you like a more coutnryside village feel!0 -
I'm not quite sure on Morley but from what I've heard it's not the best. There has to be a reason it's cheaper and you get more for your money.
We're on the Horsforth side of town and it's nice. Traffic can be a nightmare at peak travelling times. Have you considered Calverley? It's not far from Horsforth and it's got a nice village feel, bowling green, nice pubs and lovely traditional houses. If I could choose I would go there over Horsforth and definately not Morley.0 -
Morley has a fair bit of "character" - I quite like the place.
What about somewhere near Morley? Eg. Gildersome, Drighlington, Farnley, Tong, etc.
Depends what you're used to and what you're looking for. I've never really been all that keen on Horsforth.0 -
If I was in 40s and buying in Leeds with 400k (well I woukdnt I would buy in Harrogate) but if I had to have Leeds I woukd go to Boston spa. Nice town. Schools haven't been so good but are rapidly improving and house prices haven't been as high as they coukd be because of schools. As schools improve I think Boston will be a good buy. And it's nice.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000 -

We're moving to Harrogate cause I agree with you it's worth it. Paying through the nose but the schools are exceptional so I'm hoping the kids put me in a good old folks home0 -

I'm a bit amused by that comment, I know Boston Spa has an LS postcode(but not STD code) but I wouldn't exactly call it Leeds as its the other side of the A1(M) for a start.
Morley used to regard itself as independent from Leeds as well and still shows this as 5 of the 6 councillors they elect are independents (definitely not BNP). I would think house prices would be a bit more robust in Horsforth than Morley and despite the students you wouldn't really end up in a student letting street with your budget; generally North Leeds has always been considered more desired than the South as reflected in the prices I guess as the factories and therefore the industrial workers were situated in the South and inner East of Leeds.0 -
I wouldn't look at Morely either there's quite a few below your price range in Horsforth http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/Horsforth.html?maxPrice=400000&minBedrooms=3&displayPropertyType=houses&secondaryDisplayPropertyType=detachedshouses&oldDisplayPropertyType=houses0
