They haven't lost - they have won.

The court drama isn't important. They have choked off the demand for solar, so have achieved their aim.

Not so sure about that - there seems to be a bit of a rush on at the moment again. Hedging bets: if the government loses in the Supreme Court you've got a stunningly good deal at the lower prices being charged now, and if they win it's probably still a pretty good investment.

Yes, but at the expense of a massive surge before the December deadline which doubled the UK's installed capacity!

  • Would like to hear from any recent HomeSun customers or would have been customers, who decided against using HomeSun to install 100% free solar panels.

Had a visit today from the HomeSun sales reps and before I sign anything I am trying to find out what others have thought.
:j £51 in the pot so far!!! :j
  • Sitting here on a bright sunny morning, I am prompted to make a comment about whether panels will be a good deal for you, because of an issue which has not been discussed much so far as I know, that is how sunny is it in your area? Here in the Vale of York in E Yorks we have panels facing slightly east of south east, i.e. outside the recommended range, and yet we are on course for a payback of at least 11% pa. at the old high rate of FIT. Even if we had been on the 21p rate, it would still be around 6 to 6 1/2% of what we paid. And installation prices have come down since March 2011, so it would be even higher now.
I attribute this to the fact we are in a relatively bright and sunny area. I'd be interested to see comparative stats on how panels perform in areas of differing sunshine within the UK.

There are 2 complete threads devoted to Homesun in the Gas section of the forum.

Good luck if you go with them.

D&D, try this site if you're bored. You can compare all over the UK (about 20% difference from top to bottom, and about the same for true South to true E/W).

If you're really bored try north facing, top tip of Norway, you may be surprised - but you will have to allow a shallow angle!

Edit: Probably would have been a good idea to put the link in - Oops!

The ‘Written ministerial statement by Chris Huhne on Feed-in Tariffs’ dated 26 January 2012 http://www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/news/chrishuhne_fit/chrishuhne_fit.aspx has a nasty sting at the end:

‘We are also intending to publish the Government’s response to the other aspects of the phase 1 consultation that are not affected by the Judicial Review (namely the proposals on energy efficiency and for multi-installation tariff rates).’

If I read this correctly, if your installation is after the 11th December 2011 your house must be energy efficient no mater which way the appeal goes. The proposal is that non energy efficient houses will only get a Generation Tariff of 9p a unit, not even 21p. Again, as far as I can see, the Feed In Tariff of half of 3.1p is still paid on top of the Generation Tariff.

I say old beans....... has anyone see that the ASA has ruled that the solar 'puff' of 11% ROI and 'much better than having your money in a bank' is a load of codswallop??
