Hi,
Thank you for explaining I do not have a corded phone, will it make any difference to do it from a cordless one? I do not know about the test socket either sorry.
Would I be better waiting for their reply then rather than change provider in case there is an issue? Thanks for any help and advice given

The purpose is to eliminate any faults on your own equipment. That includes wireless interference on cordless handsets. You can borrow a corded one or buy for next to nothing in a boot sale-or new for about a fiver at Argos.
The BT test socket is located behind the master socket split faceplate. Undo the 2 screws and hinge the faceplate forward to locate it.
As already stated, any fault on the local loop will remain regardless of a change of provider. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Is there a provider that I could go to that this problem would not effect please. Thanks for any help and advice given

No. All ADSL providers use the same BT-based line into your home.
The only alternative is to use VM cable service, if available at your location. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thank you Macman do you know if Virgin are any good as they are in my area thanks. Thanks for any help and advice given

Virgin are in all areas-I was referring to VM cable. Virgin National is just a resold BT ADSL service, so no use for your problem.
Loads of VM threads on this board, pro and con, so you'll need to make up your own mind.
The most expensive telephony in the UK though. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Just had a look at virgin they are a lot more than what I pay now. Would they be my only other choice? Thanks for any help and advice given

However many times you ask the question, the answer is the same. Yes, if you want fixed line broadband.
The only other option is mobile broadband using a dongle. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Sorry was just trying to get my options clear before I signed anything that was not going to be any good for me.Thanks for any help and advice given

No problem, but if you can't get the ADSL line sorted, then cable is the only other landline option. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
