According to them they will add the wrong oil to my Diesel Yaris!:cool:0 -
It gets it right for one of mine, first choice it gives Edge 0w30, which is ok, but I always use the second choice Magnatec 10w40.
Way out for the next one though, first choice is edge Edge 5w40 turbo diesel, second choice is magnatec 10w40.
Edge is way out as a C3 only, for the reasons in the previous post, I always use the equivalent of the Magnetec 10w40, which is correct. (It's a mid 90's Peugeot 106, 1.5d).0 -
Well, if I wasn't confused before I definitely am now!
Back to money saving (and I'm prepared to be tutted at for this) what do you think of Eurocarparts cheapest compatible of Carlube Engine Oil (10W40 Semi-Syn Diesel 5 Litre).
It's also worth noting that it's been a minimum of 12000 miles since the last oil change so every day I spend deliberating over this, the more chance there is of the engine just going bang anyway :-)
Is the general consensus that I should return the Castrol GTX then?0 -
Shell site gives:-
Initial/service fill HELIX HX7 10W40 / HELIX HX5 15W400 -

Return the GTX if you want a semi synthetic, the Carlube is a good choice as well.Shell site gives:-

My first choice would be the HX7, the HX5 is an older spec.0 -
I have heard good things about CarLube oil aswell, used Mobil 1 for my wifes Clio's last oil change but the one before was CarLube from German and Swedish.
The specs where certainly very good on the one I bought, wasn't that expensive, a little cheaper than Elf from a Renault dealer and a little deaer than Mobil 1 from Costco.
The only reason I didn't chose CarLube the last oil change was simply snobbery, if I can have Mobil 1 was about the same price then I will choose it.
Mobil 1 may not be any better than CarLube but the label is uber fashionable...................... :rotfl:0 -
If it were me, i'd use the carlube and as per all my cars change the oil every 5k, stuff the trend for these long life service intervals, can not go wrong with a change that often i'd say, can do nothing but preserve the engine.:j0

Turns out the Castrol GTX is semi-synth but is A3/B4
when the handbook recommends A3/B3.0 -
Do you still have the car's handbook? This will list the oil spec recommended by the manufacturer which will be the ideal one to go for. If you're just topping up, then getting it exactly right won't matter so much - the wrong oil is better than no oil!0
