Hello pleasedelete, we go to Bedale too so have probably met!

I've been told York is very good but I've never done it, as we're based in Darlington it's a bit far down but I reckon you should give it a go then report back! ;)
Reporting back. I did both York on Saturday and Rufforth on Sunday.

To set it in context I have done 2 at bedale £140 ( not great weather) and £190 taken after paying for £8 pitch each time. As much space as you like. No restrictions on what you sell.

2 at Ripley (£270 1st of season weather turned out ok) and £190 last week in good weather. £10 for a car end on but you get space each side. I got a triple table and 3 groundsheets in the space. No restrictions as far as aware.

1 at pannal (poor weather. £130) . As much space as you like. Masses
Of space . No restrictions as far as aware. Hill is really windy at times.

1 at Ripon. Think it was £10 for car sideways on. Space was decent. £120. Didn't like it and wouldn't go again. Too much time queuing and setting up for too little selling time. But lots do like it.

Ok. So York racecourse. Said no new goods on the website and suggested it was quite collectable. Got there at 6.30 am. massive queue got In At about 7.30. Paid £14 for a large pitch. This was the car sideways on. It was table and 4 groundsheets. So only a fraction bigger than a standard pitch at Ripley. Very busy first thing. Took some vintage stuff and small furniture plus usual household stuff for family with children.

Seller on one side of me sold up and went at 10 and the other at 10.30 so I was a bit isolated. I would say at least 50 per cent professional stalls. Weather was fab £200 taken after pitch BUt I left at 11.30 by choice as it was thin g out. Woukd have taken more if I had stayed until 1pm.

I would go again. I would take shabby chic collectable stuff. Prices I got for vintage clothing etc were good.

Rufforth car boot sale today. Weather was hot. Got there just before 7am. Website says sellers from 10 am but they were from 6am I think.

Website had prices from £9 and no restrictions on goods.I paid £11 (basic was £9 )for what was described as a double pitch. A single pitch was one car parking space and a double 2 car parking spaces (supermarket space size and width not length). Lots of people were paying an extra £2 to get a still very small double pitch when they saw the size of a single. I paid an extra £2 the for 3 spaces wide- so £13 which was table and 4 groundsheets- still a pretty small space.

Unloaded stuff then told because some of it was new I would have to an extra £15 or £16 - so £29 (possibly £28) in total! Tne website is a bit vague about this bit. The guy said the all new goods across 3 spaces would be £60. Eeek as at bedale, pannal, ripon and ripley sold exactly tne same without anyone charging more. But if those are the rules they are.

After paying the £29 for tne pitch I took £217. It wasn't very busy. Most people seemedcto be take g a lot of stuff back with them- they were say g it hadn't been a good day- domit may be better at other times.

Tne people next to me were lovely- best for a long time which helped the time pass.

I wouldnt have gone if I knew it was going to be £29 it woukd have been £10 at Ripley today.

I won't go back. Not enough trade for tne price of the pitch. If I hadn't sold new stuff (all low value) I would gave taken less than £70 on a sunny day with a £13 pitch fee. I didn't sell a single item at more than £3.

I guess you find the boot that suits you. Overall Bedale is looking best for Saturday for me and Ripley when it's on on a Sunday.

I have loads of stuff as clearing a house.

pleasedelete there's one started up near Northallerton on a Saturday afternoon, about a mile west of the town on the A684. Was pretty quiet yesterday, about 15 sellers, but would hope it'llget bigger with word of mouth.

Thanks for the reports pleasedelete, you're certainly getting about a bit!

I'm busy over the next few Saturday's so will probably be trying the Car Boot at Scorton next Sunday. Going to miss being at Bedale but will be back.

I personally like Rilpey car boot, but travel a few (maybe to many) miles and there are some good ones in Ilkley.

I'm not keen on Scorton and being lazy I prefer a lie in and go to Darlington Football club which is 8.30 for the sellers and the punters don't get in until 10am. It is run by the council so they are real jobsworths and stick to the rules so no dealers or anyone get in before 10 and no one can rummage in your stuff while you are unloading or setting up. That's nice because you can set up in peace and then have a look around, sit and have a bacon sarnie and some coffee all before the punters get in!

I've only ever been to the Darlington FC one once and that was in the Winter so the sellers were inside. Does it get many buyers and do they actually spend? ;)

I had a stall there a couple of weeks ago and it was ok, plenty of folks but it tends to be all over by 12, so its a quick 2 hours business.

Another little bonus there is you can save space in your car by not bringing any tables. They hire out large sturdy wooden tables with metal legs for £1 per table.

They closed the main Leeds one so they could claim it unused land for 24 months and then put an incinerator on the plot.
