Tesco home delivery is rubbish

For 2 weeks now, I've been getting my groceries delivered from Tesco. However, I noticed something that just doesn't fit.
Last weekend when I ordered my groceries, I noticed that a third of the items that I always get, were not on their website. These are Tesco own brand items as well.
Various frozen goods, stuff like ketchup and bbq sauces, some baking ready mixes. These are all items that are always in the store. Items that I've never seen out of stock. The bags of chips for one. The freezer is usually half full of them.
I had to order more expensive alternatives. The only bags of chips they had on their website was McCains. They did have packs of choc-chip muffin mixes, but that was it.
I asked the delivery driver which store he was delivering from, and it was the store that I use to go into for my shopping.
So, I rang up Tesco customer services to enquire about this and was told that if the items were not on the website, then they were out of stock. This is untrue, as my parents go to the same store and they told me that the items that I usually get were in stock. In fact, the shelves were brimming with the items.
So not only did I have to order more expensive alternatives, but I had to pay £5 delivery. On Wednesday's it's £3.50, every other day it's £5 and £6 with the odd £4.50.
Has anyone else had this sort of problem ordering their groceries through Tesco online?
Either way, I'm going to try ASDA delivery. If they don't provide to my needs, then it's back to going into Tesco store and causing them problems through my health.

try typing in the exact product and brand.
It never shows the whiskas canned catmeat when I do it online, always shows the sachets only or cheaper brands grrr!
Same with some other products.
I stopped doing it online because of this, as I felt they were trying to force me to buy the brands of their choice.Just sold a lawnmower on Ebay.. That's the last time my neighbour will wake me up on a Saturday morning!0 -
I've not had that problem.
If you search out what you want, do they refrain from adding it to your favourites? Otherwise you only need to search out each 'difficult' product once. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
I don't expect they use the store's shelves to make up online orders but even so I'd find this frustrating. The problems people have with online shopping - god knows why they bother. You however, have mentioned you have health problems so no doubt it's easier to shop online. Try somewhere decent like Sainsbury's or Ocado/Waitrose. I should imagine problems still occur but they don't seem to with quite the same regularity as Tesco and Asda (judging by these forums)."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

They do.
Whenever I go there there are people pushing around big carriers doing the picking.
This is why Tesco made on line shopping work after others had failed. The others invested in vast new warehouses and could never make the service pay. Tesco realised that they could use their current stores as warehouses and it really took off. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

I tried Sainsbury's just once (that was enough) the fruit and veg was no where near fresh. The bread was all squashed and washing up liquid had leaked.

I asked the same question a while ago and they explained that the website can only hold a certain amount of products as to many will slow it down..
I thought how odd, but apparently other companies do the same for the same reasons (I asked them).. However, after requesting the products I wanted they were on the website within a couple of weeks.. Perhaps you could do the same :-)0 -

I can confirm this as my sister works for Sainsbury's, picking people's online orders, and does this from the regular shelves. I can't imagine that Tesco would be any different.
I just wish that Sainsbury's would increase their radius for their delivery areas - I live roughly 9 miles from two different Sainsbury's (in different directions) and they will not deliver to me! I live about 11 miles from our nearest Tesco, and yet they do. I have ordered from the online Tesco service a few times, and must admit that I've never come across the problems that the OP has faced. Perhaps I am just lucky, or perhaps they've changed things recently as I haven't ordered on line for a few months.0 -
I have had exactly the same problem with dog food which I have been buying for yonks and the stores still stock (including the one my order comes from) I had a very unhelpful reply from customer services who said that they were clearing out goods which didn't sell from their website - I think they probably have a major IT problem...0

I tried typing in the product, but it comes up saying that it can't find the item.0 -

Our nearest Waitrose is in Sheffield, a good 30 minute drive away, and you have to cross the M1. Ocado is too expensive, and sadly Sainsbugs, apart from petrol is not as cheap on their groceries. Also, they don't seem to stock as much as Tesco, despite similar size stores.
So I'm stuck with trying ASDA, before resorting to returning to going back into Tesco.0
