very confused - by phone call

Hi , Earlier this year I tried to apply for some help
because I could not work due to poor health. I was told at the time that I was unsucessful in my application.

So I have accepted that decision and struggled trying to earn some money, only able to do 3x 1 hours a week and living off my husbands wage.

Then today I got a phone call asking me to go for a medical ,
so I asked them why ? and they said because I am on income support . I told them that is not true. So they looked it up and said that my money is held up (for 6 months) and needs releasing to me and then I will have a medical to decide if it should continue.

What is going on ????

They said they will phone me back.

Now my concern is .. I have earnt 3 hours a week for the past 3 months , "with great difficulty I may add". Cant believe how this can happen.

any thoughts ?

  • I don't think you will qualify for Income Support if your husband is working. Did you apply for another benefit and not IS perhaps. AFAIK you do not have to have a medical for Income Support.
Sometimes it seems that just when I think I have reached rock bottom, someone hands me a shovel.

Do you mean ESA (Employment and Support Allowance)?
  • I thought Id applied for ESA back in january, but this lady is saying
Income support and says I have money held there @£67.50 a week.

I really think they have made a big mistake. I read about income support and I tick all the boxes "except" my husband should only work 24 hours or less a week (he works 30).

Dont want money that I shouldnt have .

I bet you don't tick all the boxes. Especially since a) you aren't a single parent or b) you aren't a carer. You need to tick both sections.

    Who can get Income Support

It's for people who all the following apply to:
    • are between age 16 and the age they can get Pension Credit
    • have a low income
    • work less than 16 hours a week
    • aren't in full-time study (but there are some exceptions)
    • don't get Jobseeker's Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance
    • don't have savings above £16,000
    • live in Great Britain
You may get Income Support if you are one of the following:
    • a lone parent
    • on parental or paternity leave
    • a carer
    • a refugee learning English who arrived less than a year ago

But you don't work more than 16 hours a week so it's worth looking into, you might qualify.
    Good luck :)

As in an official paid carer, you get carers allowance?

Sorry, I was only going by what you put?
Does it mean that you can't claim on our own merit but haveto be considered as part of the total ousehold income/hours worked?
