they just seem to be batting above their station in my opinion at the price they are in my book:)

Wondering if anyone knows when online stores start selling winter tyres?

I intend to buy some as early as I can, as had a nightmare last winter & I don't want a repeat.

I'd imagine that the MX5 on good quality winter tyres would be rather better at stopping in the snow than a 4x4 on balding summers

Can't be any worse than my GF's automatic 200SX in the snow last year. She still made it home, up in the valleys, on summer tyres by virtue of not being a crap driver.

That said, having seen the difference with my car on winter tyres, she's looking for a set this year. Anyone know where we can get 16" steel wheels ET35 4x114.3, this seems to be a very difficult size to find anywhere.

Speaking of not being a crap driver, I do recall being overtaken on a single carriageway by my mechanic in his turbo MX-5 in this years snow. That guy is a skilled driver but also a complete nutter. :D

Can get them now but prices seem high- perhaps reduce when others in Germany etc start buying them in August?

Or risk them not being available at all once our continental brethren have done their swaps.

They used to be cheaper abroad but given the current ex-rates there can't be much of an incentive for them to be shipped to the UK

The key is to do what I am doing at the moment, keep checking a bunch of sites every few days (I'm checking BC, mytyres, reifen.com, Oponeo and Camskill) and jump on the deal when it comes.

Reasonable winter tyres are available at a fair price (Nankang SV2 for around £60 each delivered) but I'm holding out for Nokians for a similar amount, or someone selling ditchfinders for £40 (you can get remoulds for £40 already, the ditchfinders are £48, Avons are around £65-70 and Nokians are £80).

If you haven't bought by the end of September expect to be raped.
