If its the same 'George' that I spoke to he told me he's a Deputy Manager. Apparently they had a big meeting about it last week to decide how to handle the problem - but they clearly weren't going to let us have the deal. I got 1 weeks free papers and 3 weeks half price in the form of a voucher book as a 'sweetener'. Nectar didn't want to know when I complained to them.

Yes, same person. I spoke to someone else earlier in the week and they said they needed to pass it on to the manager. George then phoned and left two messages on my answerphone at home with his details. I phoned him back yesterday. I think they're trying to do a damage limitation exercise now.

Last Summer I worked in a call centre for three weeks trying to sign people up for this deal. The names of people that were on the call list were there because they had,at some point or another, bought something that was advertised in a magazine that came with the Daily Mail. The voucher then was a £50 M&S one.

It was a really good deal for those that bought the Daily Mail anyway but we were only allowed to offer the deal if they were buying the papers four days a week or less. Anything over four days and we had to thank them for being loyal readers and 'reward' them with a money saving booklet as if that was the reason we'd called in the first place :rotfl:

The voucher got sent out straight away then and so it would have been possible to cancel after the first month although we were not allowed to say this even if asked.

Yes, I had that deal last year - very good it was too. Didn't turn me into a loyal reader though - only buy it at weekends and when Nudge indicates there's a voucher worth having :D

Hi was sent the cancellation letter and then had a reply to email saying that the direct debit was set up automatically but at no time would any money be taken.
Got a letter today to say that when they tried to lodge instruction with bank it was referred back to them Luckily I had cancelled the DD !!!!
