  • Can someone direct me to a DIN or other reference that mentions this resetting? I always carry over ten days and have done for quite some time, my leave clock has never been reset and I have never been asked on joining a new unit how much leave I have left.

So what is the Reference for this then?

I am a Clerk and I haven't seen anything or even heard anyone mention it until now.

The reply was for the OP who is serving in the RAF. I am unsure if this is tri-service, though the JSP 760 Para 1.011 might appear so.

Basically as of April 12, they will not be able to carry over any leave, again in April 15, April 18 etc (aka every 3 years).

Upon posting to a new unit. Any carried over leave from the previous year is lost. Not a great issue unless you movement is in April.

Basically, every 3 years they want you to take all your annual leave or lose it.

    Information

    JSP 760 - Para 1.011
    DIN Link
    IBN Notes (Search for Leave)

Back at work today after a long weekend and just read JSP 760 Article 1.011.

It does not say that you will lose your leave, in fact it says you must take your leave, every 3 years or on joing a new Unit, to avoid people stockpiling leave.

If the powers that be do not let you take all your leave in that 3 year period and you have it documented ie. requested it on JPA and had it refused, then I'm sure you would have grounds for a complaint.

However, if you don't have it documented then, it will be more difficult for you to argue your case, although the JSP does say you must take and not that you will lose it.

1.011 Periods in excess of 15 days’ untaken Annual Leave may be carried forward to the next leave year, subject to the approval of the CO. The carrying forward of Annual Leave in excess of 15 days should be authorised only where it can be taken in the following year, without impairing operational efficiency or impacting unfairly on work colleagues and where there is reasonable expectation of it being taken. The opportunity to ‘stockpile’ large amounts of excess Annual Leave is to be discouraged. After 3 years or at the end of a tour, whichever is sooner, personnel are to take all untaken leave. The leave is to be taken whilst on the strength of the losing unit.

A DIN has been issued cancelling the 3 year zeroing rule. Up to 15 days can now automatically be carried forward in Apr 2012.

You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.

Still loose it on change of assignment (posting). However if you book leave prior to posting and then cancel it after posting it stays in your balance so it can be carried over - so I have been informed ;-)

    DIN is on the Intranet.

You shouldn't lose any leave on change of assignment though, as you should take all your leave prior to joining your new Unit.
