I drove into a stone bollard once knocking it flat, and it shocked me so much that I then drove into a second one too.

I informed the council and they claimed £1800 against my insurance to fix it :T Bargain! £1800 for a lump of stone. It made me reconsider seeking alternate employment in the bollard business as the pay seems quite good.

Perhaps I should have sued the bollard for me not looking where I was going carefully enough?

Peterbaker btw........what are you like!!!??? :rotfl::rotfl:

I've tried to Google Earth my bollard but the resolution is too poor. ;) Perhaps we could turn this into a "landmarks we've driven into thread as the OP seems to have disappeared!"

Well, if you want to be serious about it I think the amusement lies not so much in the accident but in the question of whether someone else was liable. In the past I did have the misfortune to drive into a stone post which was an expensive mistake (and I was a poor student at the time). It was certainly not funny. However, I freely admit that the incident was down to poor driving on my part - how could it not be?

I think if I had tried to sue the landowner for the actions / placement of his stone post then I might well have seen the humour (stupidity?) in that.

    Happy?

Oh good. It is good to know that during the season of goodwill that you are not, in fact, revelling in anothers misfortune. Though in your earliest post it does seem as if you are.

I reversed into a car on a carpark once when I was angry. I put my foot on the accelorator instead of the brake and shot backwards. Nobody was hurt though fortunately.

It definitly wasnt my fault. If that other car hadnt been there.... if the car park hadnt been there.....if the oh hadnt annoyed me.......

    but it wasnt me

Let's hope that if you have a car, and you encounter a similar incident which potentially could leave you several hundreds of pounds poorer, that you will still regard the experience with such amusement?
C'mon Steve - lighten up! I laughed about mine especially when I found I could show that boulder I hit to anyone with Google !

Two hours after I'd set off again, I clipped one of the temporary 'plastic' 1 metre high edge markers on an exceptionally narrow two-lane bit of German motorway roadworks - as I was in my motorhome, when I realised too late how narrow the temporary lane had become, my choice was to either veer and encroach into the neighbouring lane or continue smoothly and risk the clip.

So, having broken the bumper, just two hours later I broke a wing mirror mounting arm.

Parts alone would be £500 for the first and £100 for the second. As my brother has a workshop, I patched them up myself.

But I had to laugh (twice!) and I am still laughing! Yes the motorhome design is such that the rear overhang can easily outreach the track of the rear wheels by a metre in even a gentle turn whilst leaving a confined space. I kind of knew the risk already, but I learned it good that day! Was it designer negligence?

Yes the German temporary motorway lanes were too narrow, but I learned something from those too! Was it highway maintainer negligence?

Nope that wasn't what I learned; in both cases it was "you won't do that again in a hurry Peter will you?":D

Yes Peter, I understand what you mean.

I've not had an incident as such, but I can imagine how sick I'd feel if I had. These boulders are often so low that they are not easily detectable using the mirrors and it really is so easy for someone to have an unfortunate accident. The OP was asking for advice. He's not inadequate, as some on here have suggested. He's just made an easy human error and the result is that he has simply had an accident. He then asks for advice on here and jamessn comes out with the comment:

"I have thanked OP for the highly amusing post. We should have more comedy questions posted!"

Not very tasteful in view of the guys' plight. However, this is my opinion and I don't expect that everyone else will take a similar view.
